Xbox 360

In Dec, 2007 Microsoft has three basic versions of the Xbox 360 console: the Xbox 360 Arcade, the standard Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 Elite system. The base system is the same for each with added benefits to enhance gameplay and media enjoyment for each different console bundle.

The Arcade version has limited storage for arcade games. It would not be gamers first choice for a video game console. The standard Xbox 360 has a 20 Gb hard drive, which is sufficient storage for games and a few songs and a video or two. The Elite has 120 Gb of storage and comes included with a HDMI digital audio-video cable. This is for those users who expect downloading and storing many video, photos, game data or music. The HDMI cable is convenient for those that need that type of connection for their home theater system. The Elite is the only system that is all black as well.

All the systems have Silver Xbox live memberships and a wireless controller included. Game compatibility is the same for the regular and Elite consoles. They are compatible with all Xbox 360 games plus over 300 original Xbox games. The Arcade version is compatible with all Xbox 360 games.

Obviously the prices for the consoles are different. The arcade machine can be had for around $280. The standard sells for around $350. The Elite goes for $450.

The Xbox console is not that large when compared with the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3. It is sleekly designed and has interchangeable faceplates that allow it to be fitted into a home cinema rack. The wireless controller is really cool and wonderfully convenient. The Xbox console supports four wireless controller devices.

The Xbox 360 has amazing graphics. All the games are optimized for high definition output. In addition, it has USB 2.0 ports for attaching accessories. Accessories include a steering wheel for driving games and a chat messenger that allows you to send instant messages to your friends while you are playing. These accessories are not included with the console bundle and must be purchased separately. The Xbox 360 console is HD ready for games and has Dolby Digital sound to give players a complete surround sound gaming experience.

The console will play on any television, high definition or not. You just need to have the video and audio inputs for the TV or home theater system. The Xbox 360 console plays audio CDs, as well as DVDs, stores photograph and will play mp3's. The Xbox 360 truly represents a big leap forward in next generation gaming technology.

Since the Xbox 360 was introduced to the market a couple of months ago there has been a lot of talk about its reliability and durability. The best place to gather information on this subject is Internet message boards. These boards have opinions from users all over the world who have had problems with their Xbox 360 console.

After scouring these pages, it appears that the biggest complaint is that the Xbox 360 is too fragile. Of course there are some people that are discounting this theory before they even look at all of the facts. But they may be right; even if the Xbox 360 console is fragile does it really matter. It is not like the system has to be moved around very often.

Are You Missing The Truth About Repairing The Xbox 360 Yourself

The Xbox 360 is a great new game console that offers a lot of features. It's also known for its problems. From the dreaded xbox 360 red ring repair (Red Ring of Death) to hard drive failures, overheating problems, and DVD drive issues, there are lots of reasons people are looking for Xbox 360 repair.

Of course, if your console isn't still under warranty, this kind of service can get pretty expensive. That causes many people to wonder if it's possible to repair an Xbox 360 yourself. In some cases you can, but it depends on the type of problem. Here are some of the most common issues an Xbox 360 might have, and the solutions.

DVD drive problems are common. If you hear a crunching noise when you place a disc into your Xbox 360, you'll know you need to send in your console for a replacement drive. Storing your console horizontally, instead of vertically, may minimize the development of this problem.

Xbox 360 Max Shooter (Xbox 360 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter)

One of the other most common reasons people look for Xbox 360 repair is actually overheating. This may be responsible for as much as sixty percent of repair jobs. However, this is easily prevented. Just keep your console in an area that's cool and has good cross ventilation. That'll prevent burnout of your components.

If you haven't been able to do this, you're probably going to be looking for an Xbox 360 red ring repair. Three red lights appear on the front of the console when a fatal hardware error occurs, often referred to as the Red Ring of Death. In many cases, these lights indicate that there is something severely, and permanently wrong with your console.

You may be able to repair your Xbox 360 yourself in these circumstances, however. Just remember that if you open the console, you'll be voiding any warranties that may apply. If you're still within the three year warranty for this problem (which affects up to a third of Xbox 360s), send your box back to Microsoft for repair.

If the warranty is up, your choices are more limited. You can talk to a third party company, and pay for the repair, or you can try to fix it yourself using a repair guide. Remember that if you do it yourself, there's no guarantee it'll work again. You should have experience with tinkering, as you'll have to replace or reinstall the graphic processing unit.

Xbox 360 repair can be done on your own, but it's better use the warranty if at all possible. Prevent problems when you can by storing your console in a well ventilated location and keeping it horizontal instead of vertical. If you take care of your Xbox 360, it'll last a lot longer, and won't need repair.

Computer gaming has definitely come a long way from back in 1972 when the game of choice was pong and played on the Atari 2600. Modern technology and video game enhancements have made gaming a serious hobby and a high-tech one as well.

If you have been keeping up with all the advances in the field of computer gaming, you will realize how these advances have been consistent with the advances of high-end technology. Computer gaming has pushed the limits of technology and is credited for many of the advancements in this field for the past generation.

The Xbox 360 is a top performer of this high-powered, top-technology trend. The Xbox 360, from Microsoft is a prime example of how technology has pushed the frontiers of gaming. With a processing power and connectivity that most high end personal computers could only dream of, the Xbox has opened a vista of possibilities never before possible on the older consoles.

Here is a brief rundown of the new features of the Xbox 360.

1. Games that take advantage of the Xbox have increased power and graphical performance. Project Gotham 3, Perfect Dark Zero, Silent Hill 4 and Kameo are only a few of the new games slated to hit the Xbox 360 this year. These games will certainly push the envelope with what is expected of newer generation games.

2. Innovative Accessories. The Xbox has accessories that will make other companies go, I wish I had thought of that. Wireless controllers will allow greater freedom for players to wreak havoc upon the competition. This gives players increased mobility, comfort and enjoyment.

Xbox also integrates internet connectivity so that gaming against a pal who lives across the country or another continent will not have to be a hassle anymore. It is now possible to have search and destroy games among the Xbox community, and you do not even have to leave the confines of your home.

3. Backward Compatibility. The old Xbox games will be fully compatible with the 360. That will amount to over 200 well-loved games from the old Xbox library. This means you will not have to wait for the 360 library to go full stock before wanting to buy one; you could enjoy the old collection along with the new immediately.

4. Mega Power. The Xbox 360 engine runs on three 3.2 GHZ processors. That is a powerful workhorse! This processing power makes the running of complex games a cinch. Many polygon-hungry games will get their fill once they get a load of this much power.

5. Couple that with the 500 MHz ATI graphics processor and you have a tremendously powerful chip that can bring life and action to any game that comes its way.

6. The Xbox 360 is versatile and not only serves as a gaming base, but it also works as a CD/DVD player, further making a case for its price. The Xbox is capable of keeping track of a load of data that you may find indispensable. All these extra features ensure that the Xbox 360 can and will be a faithful entertainment tech companion for a long, long time.

While there are many gaming consoles around, it would pay to consider the strengths and weaknesses of them all. However, there is a consensus among gaming enthusiasts that the most important aspect of any gaming console is the technology, processor speed, memory, storage, along with availability and support of consoles and games.

In this regard, the Xbox 360 has room to boast. With a staff of developers currently at work for Microsoft enhancing the Xbox, gamers are sure to be spellbound for years to come.

Micheal Coley asked:

The Apple XBox 360 is generally considered to be the big cheese when it comes to home video game systems. And why shouldn't it be? The XBox 360 is a popular video game player on the market, and Microsoft is continually updating, upgrading and offering more accessories and products for their device than any other manufacturer out there today.

However, even though the XBox 360 is the world's most popular video game system, that doesn't mean that you should simply run out to your nearest electronic goods retailer and pick up the first XBox 360 that you see. As with any vital purchase decision, research is the key to making an informed buying choice.

Even though the XBox 360 enjoys unparallel popularity, there are certain things that you should bear in mind before you ultimately purchase your XBox 360:

•IS THE XBox 360 RIGHT FOR ME

There's the original XBox, the XBox 360, and the Xbox Online too. Each variation of the Xbox or Xbox 360 has different features and functions than the other. And while the new XBox 360 should be easy to locate in a wide range of stores, other versions might be difficult to locate if they are discontinued or sold out. You should definitely research exactly which XBox you want before you purchase it.

•DO I WANT ACCESSORIES

You can easily purchase a simple XBox 360 for your pleasure, but you'll then have to consider where you will use your XBox 360 and how you'll use it. Will you just keep it with you at home for playing? Will you take it with you to a friend's house, or even work and school? For each use of the XBox 360, there are many accessories that you can purchase to store and protect your device. You will have to ask yourself if you are willing to spend the extra money for the wide range of XBox 360 accessories that Microsoft has to offer.

•HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH FOR ME

Are you a video game fanatic, playing everything your eyes can possibly take all the time? Or do you have a limited amount of games that you absolutely love? If you're the former, then you will want to get an XBox 360 with the greatest memory capacity that you can afford. The larger the memory capacities, the more games you can download, store and play on your Xbox. But, if you are the latter, then you won't need to spend so much on an XBox 360, as you will not require an exceptionally large memory capacity.

•ASK WHAT YOUR XBox 360 CAN DO FOR YOU

We all know that the XBox 360 is great for playing games and movies. However, XBox 360s can be much more than simple video game system. Your XBox 360 can connect you online to the world if you want. You can shop for Microsoft and Xbox 360 items right from your console if you want. If you want your XBox 360 to be everything you need, then you should expect to shell out extra money for it. However, if you just want your XBox 360 to play games and nothing else, then you won't have to spend as much money.

No matter what kind of XBox 360 you get or how you plan on using it, you should do a bit of research before you make that purchase. It's never a good thing when you buy something you don't really need, or when you purchase something that does not meet your needs and expectations. However, when armed with knowledge, you will be certain to purchase the right XBox 360 for you.

Susan Chinweike - Umeh asked:

Ever since Xbox 360 was introduced by Microsoft for the gaming community, there has been an expression of unhappiness by the gaming community. It is regarding the 360 freezing issues. What the users of Xbox wonder are why does my Xbox 360 freezes? Of course, Microsoft has been attending to these 360 freezing issues, but one has to have patience to wait for four to five weeks.

The 360 fixing problem has drawn the attention of many people who frequently use the Xbox gaming. Some people have pointed out that even the error message does not appear on the monitor. Even with online help from Microsoft, the problem continues unabated. Some even complain that the three red lights did not glow to indicate the onset of the problem.

Xbox is basically a simplified version of a high end gaming PC. That is to say, the Xbox is nothing but a PC with gaming options. Whenever a person selects the game with high requirements, the entire system gets busy, resulting in high traffic inside the console and as a result, it generates more heat. This problem can be overcome by removing the closed cabinet of the Xbox and keeping the console near the window or air cooler or fan so that the heat does not harm the solder. Further, when the console is kept near the window or near the air cooler, the heat reduces and the Xbox functions normally. Three red lights provided in the console starts to glow when the Xbox 360 freezes. So, why does my Xbox 360 freeze is because of the problems mentioned above.

The Xbox 360 is available has a hard disk of 20 GB. Out of this, nearly 6 GB is taken away for the games provided on line. The remaining 14 GB can be used for downloading games etc. When the hard disk is full, the console tends to be slow.

Some attribute the freezing problem to faulty circuit or faulty hardware.

Remedies:

Whatever be the reason, if one chooses he can take the help of Microsoft service centre. Instead of wondering why my Xbox 360 freezes, it is appropriate to find solution. If the Xbox is still under warranty then approaching the Microsoft service centre would appear to be the best choice. There are many Xbox 360 video repair guides which gives step by step instructions to set right the Xbox. There are many books or guides which also gives step by step instructions to repair the Xbox 360. With the help of these guides it would be possible to repair the Xbox 360 and for this no specialized tools or skill is required.

If the freezing occurs when the files are in the process of downloading, then this creates more problems. This is because, if the console freezes when the downloading is in the process, some files which are in the process of copying will cause malfunctioning of the hard disk. This can be overcome by disconnecting the network cable from the console and by deleting the file which not copied in full.

A Family Friendly Video Game That Anyone Will Love

Gregg Hall asked:

On of the favorite games for the game cube is Mario Power Tennis. It is great for all the sport lovers and game lovers in the world. It all began years ago with Pac Man, Mario Brothers and the list goes on and on. The game world has come a long way since the days of Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man. There are adventure games, sports, racing, karate or ninjas, and many more. There are games to please everyone.

Today's games are looking more like reality than ever before. Mario Power Tennis is however just a game for fun so they are still more like the basic Marios. Some people like the reality games but they are also scary when it comes to your kids knowing how to distinguish the difference between a game and reality. Much like some television shows and movies, there are some games that children should not be able to play.

Some of the games can mess up a child's mind. Parents should control what games their children play. Mario Power Tennis for Game Cube would be a fun and safe game for them to play. The characters are fun and very distinguishable from reality.

Some of the more reality killing games are hard to deal with because they even look real like adults. There is enough killing and crimes without playing the games and killing others. We are at war and killing is a reality so we do not need games with people killing other people in them. It isn't near as bad if we are slaying a dragon. The games today are so realistic, they include blood and everything to make it look like it happened right on the street. It is bad enough to make even some grownups have nightmares so we can only guess as to how it is affecting our kids. Thanks to games like Mario Power Tennis, there is still hope for the world.

There are many testimonials of game players who are very pleased with the Mario Power Tennis game and claim that it is a lot of fun and very up to date in their maneuvers and plays. The power shots like the slice, topspin, drop, flat, and lob are all included, and different positions are an added plus to the game as compared to the basic game.

The game is exciting to play if you are a tennis player and even if you aren't. The game can be great fun especially with multi players. But for the single players, they can still challenge Mario, Luigi, Peach, and the gang. Mario Power Tennis may just be the favored tennis game of all time. Some may not agree about Mario games and other not so realistic games but they are some recommended games for children and adults who do not want to see all of the blood and hear all of the foul language.

Online Video Game Rentals-How do They Work?

Jay Moncliff asked:

Tired of going to the video store with the kids to rent those ever-popular video games? Many new services have cropped up in the last few years that make this parental ritual, and the late fees that go along with it, a thing of the past.

Going online to rent a video game is a great way to eliminate another errand and keep the kids happy. You never have to go any further than your mailbox, and you can keep the games until the kids are tired of them or beat them (whichever comes first).

Several services like Gamefly, Numbthumb and RentZero have begun serving this lucrative market, and the number of companies joining them is growing monthly. The concept is simple and convenient.

The services work more like a subscription than a video rental store. You select several games (up to 50 at Gamefly) that you would like to rent sometime in the future. These are placed in a lineup, or queue, that you will receive. Then, you'll consult the kids and see how many at a time they want to receive. With this information, you'll choose the subscription plan that you want. You can choose to receive one, two or three games at a time, with monthly fees that depend on the number selected. Most range from about $15.00 per month to $35.00 per month.

Your service will send the game(s) out to you along with prepaid envelopes for their return. They'll arrive in your mailbox and you'll need to carry them into the house. That's it! No arguments at the video store, no chasing kids up and down the halls, no "out of stock" problems.

Once the kids (or significant other) has enjoyed the game, you simply drop it into the postage paid envelope and put it in a mailbox. When the company receives it, they send out the next game on the list. You keep the game as long as you want.

The queue is flexible as well. Game selection can be updated on the internet, and changes to the list take effect right away. The kids can make as many modifications as they want.

All of the plans have options to purchase a game that the kids just can't seem to get enough of, and most charge pre-played game prices. However, most folks seem to enjoy trying as many games as possible each month, and you can always re-queue a game that you love.

Turnaround time is a factor, so consider where the game rental company is located. The closer you are to the mailing center, the sooner they'll receive your returns and you'll get your new games. Most of the plans average about 6-7 days from the time you mail your game back to when the new one is received, but that means you could try 4 games a month for each game subscription you get. If you don't like investing hundreds of dollars on games that you haven't tried, or if you're just too lazy to trudge to the video store each week, online video game rental services may be for you.

What is So Special About Guitar Hero?

Jerbob Johnsen asked:

Can someone please tell me what is so special about Guitar Hero? I was mingling around in Target over the weekend at two different locations and at both stores, I saw people buying Guitar Hero. Granted, I don't know if they were on sale but with the holiday season rapidly approaching, it made sense to grab them while they were still on available on the selves.

Teenage boys and I image girls as well have played air guitar for years. With air guitar, you didn't need to know how to play but only how to look really cool. Since the introduction of the game Hero Guitar, the closest thing to the real thing is this game.

I have to admit, the concept is pretty neat and simple. Yeah, I know all the programming wasn't that simple but to use it is another story. I got to looking around and found that not only was the guitar controller available, then you have wireless controllers. The number of accessories available will cause your head to swerve. If you got a teenager at home, then they are hinting for you to buy every accessory available for guitar hero on the earth. They will just die if they don't get it.

Being an aging baby boomer, I still love my rock and roll. Ok I own up to it, I still play a mean air guitar but only if I am the only person in the room. Rocking with CCR brings back a lot of memories, Vietnam, and wild times of the sixties. If we only had the Guitar Hero back then!

This game is so popular you can even find guitar face covers for the guitar controllers. Some of these designs are pretty impressive and reminds me of the real guitars you could spend a small fortune on. I guess if you are going to do some serious guitar game playing, then you would your gear to reflect how you feel and not embarrass you.

What ages are best suited for Guitar Hero? After watching and learning, it appears that if you can pick up the guitar controller and hold it like a guitar, then you are old enough to start rocking. It seems, this game has no age limit. If you think about it, that is impressive. No wonder, they are flying off the shelves.

I am wondering if I should go buy me one. Of course, I could use the excuse that I am buying it for my granddaughter. Naturally, I would have to open the box and try it out to make sure it work perfectly before giving it to her. I can't take the chance of giving her a defective gift, could I? I have to dig into my closet and get out my bell bottoms and tie died shirt, dark sunglasses and some flashing strobes and I would be ready to really check this instrument out. Now if I could only get my wife to go along with this, I could be rocking shortly better than I did with my favorite air guitar.

Visit any video game outlet and you are bound to get overwhelmed by the hundreds of choices available especially if you're new to gaming. Interestingly, children and teens seem to know their way around these places as if they were their second home. But for the adult, the typical video store looks like some sort of color paint explosion and sooner or later, all the games start to look the same. This guide is for the adult who's buying a game for a younger person perhaps as a birthday gift or as a bribe. Whatever the reason, you're going to appreciate the following tips.

1. Research this strange phenomenon before setting foot inside a video store. There's plenty of information available about video games online, so to reduce frustration offline, fire up your web browser and do a little homework. Visit the website of the gaming outlet nearest you and then look for a link to the games section of the system that your youngster plays. Here's a helpful chart to explain what all those strange letters mean.

The key is to locate the system on the store's website first. The system, it's accessories, and all of the games that work on that system will follow. If not, you may need to use the website's internal search engine.

2. After locating the appropriate games section for your youngster's machine, check out the ratings of each game and create a temporary shopping list of age appropriate material. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) gives each game a rating in an effort to inform parents what their children are playing. Here's a handy reference to what the ratings mean:

C = Appropriate for Early childhood

E = Appropriate for Everyone

E 10+ = Appropriate for Everyone aged 10 and older

T = Appropriate for Teens

M = Appropriate for Mature Adults

3. Within your temporary shopping list, try find a game that's built from the latest movie release. Little people love the new animated movies put out by Disney and Pixar, and they really enjoy re-living precious moments in the movie in a video game. That's why when these movies come out on DVD, their producers put a few games in the "Special Features section" of the CDs.

4. If you can't find a game that's built from a movie that the child likes, try to find a game that centers around a popular cartoon character or one that attempts to educate.

5. If you still can't find one that resembles something that you've heard this particular person rambling on about, first give yourself a slight slap on the hand. You should pay better attention. Then point your browser to the nearest Blockbuster or Hollywood Video website. Follow the same procedure outlined in steps 1 - 3 only this time, elect to rent 5 or 6 games that look appealing. This will give your tot a chance to play some games and select one to keep forever while you return the others.

6. If on the other hand, you did find a game in step 3 or 4, you can either check out online, or drive up to the store and buy it there.

They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but the illustrations on the both video and pc game cases do a pretty good job of representing the game's content. So if you see an illustration of fighting warriors, chances are the game will be more violent than you prefer. If on the other hand, you see an illustration that resembles what you'd see on the cover of an interesting children's book, the game should be age appropriate.

Mark Robins asked:

In the days of Pong, it would have been hard to imagine all the video games we take for granted these days. Handheld, high-tech, dancing on a mat that's recorded by the TV. It would have seemed surreal.

Well, the surreal has become real and the newest addition to the video game revolution is Xbox 360 Live, a truly multimedia, multiplayer experience that surpasses anything we've previously understood about video games.

Though many people like to play video games with a friend, it is largely seen as a singular, solitary activity. But with the addition of Xbox 360 Live to the video game lineup, things are socially kickin' now.

Simply put, Xbox 360 Live is an online gaming service using your Xbox or Xbox 360 video console. You subscribe to the service, and then can play games with or against friends or other players around the world. There are more than 100 Xbox games that are enabled for this service, and all Xbox 360 games are at least "Xbox 360 Live aware".

What's most striking about Xbox 360 Live is the method by which you communicate with others. Through a headset that's either bundled with your gaming system or purchased separately, you can voice or text message your friends or other players. While you are signed on, you can see what your friends are doing, even to the extent you can tell what game they are playing and what level they are on.

Truly, this is not your dad's Atari.

So, how do you get in on this interesting form of play? First, you should own an Xbox 360 video gaming system. Then you have to subscribe to the service, and given the features, it is surprisingly affordable.

There are a variety of ways to subscribe to Xbox 360 live. If you choose the gold package (most popular), you can get:

- Access to online multiplayer games

- Ability to download Xbox 360 content and access to other downloads

- Enhanced ability to manage your list of friends

How do you purchase these services? There are a few ways. You can purchase a bundle at a store (currently available with rebates) and install. You can also purchase cards with time on them.

For example:

- You can purchase a 12-month Xbox 360 Live subscription card for about $50 or a 3-month subscription card for around $20.

- If you purchase the 3-month premium gold pack, you receive a headset, a 3-month gold membership, 100 Microsoft points, and the Xbox Live arcade game, Joust. This costs about $40 but currently has a $10 rebate.

- Go for the big daddy and purchase the 12-month premium gold pack. This will get you a 12-month membership, the Xbox 360 headset, the Xbox Live arcade game, Bankshot Billiards, and 200 Microsoft points. This costs about $70, but currently has a $20 rebate.

If you're not sure you want to pay for a membership, there is a free 48-hour trial offer, which allows you to try the service before deciding if you want to subscribe. Like any free trial, this is a great way to decide if this is the right service for you.

How Renting Games Online Works

Kemo asked:

Next gen consoles come with next gen graphics, next gen fun, and most importantly a next gen price tag! With most games now ranging from 60-80 dollars per video game, it's obvious why renting video games online have exploded in the recent months. If you're like me, and I know you are, you probably only play games once and then never touch them again. What a waste!

Maybe you are on the fence. Maybe you are new to this concept. Either way, you have a bit to learn and I'm glad to teach!

Renting video games online is much like renting dvds online. If you're not familiar with that concept either, it's like going to your local movie rental shop and renting movies or video games. However, instead of actually having to get up and waste gas to go pick up a product you will probably only watch or play once, you get to do it ALL from the comfort of your own home!

You can rent video games online with a simple click of a button and you can have them shipped to you within 2-3 days.

Too good to be true right? Lucky for you, it IS true!

You simply go to a video game rental site, sign up for a free trial (that way there's nothing to lose on your end) and select a few games for them to send out. Within 48 hours you have yourself the hottest titles without having to break your wallet!

There couldn't possibly by anything more, right? Wrong.

Renting games online from these clubs also gives you the luxury of not having to worry about returning them on time. You can keep them for (literally) as long as you want! If you were signed up to a conventional rental store, they would slap you with penalties as much as they possibly can. So rolling up back-due fees will never be something you have to worry about.

Another luxury these rental clubs provide is the ability to play vintage games! It is very rare that you ever see a rental store offering games for the playstation 2, playstation 1, the original xbox, the dreamcast, etc.

However, with these online clubs they provide you with virtually every game created for virtually every console created (even for some of you old school Atari fans!).

In closing, renting games online has saved me at least 1000 dollars by now (Think I'm lying? That's about 10 games if you were to buy them at a store!). It is a very valuable service that for gamers - recreational players and addicted players alike - one les thing to worry about when trying to decide how we are going to get our next video game!

Have you decided to take the plunge? Well I've got more good news! I have reviewed every top online game rental service out there that ranks their prices, shipping times, and game availability. Check out our reviews and let your wallet decide whats best!

Lisa Whister asked:

Do you know what's special about the Xbox 360? Here are some of the features you can expect from Xbox 360:

Ring of Light and Xbox Guide Button. The ring of light is the power button and it is divided into four quadrants that can display a number of different colors depending on what is going on.

The Xbox Guide button is prominently featured on the controller as well as the Xbox 360 remote. This will allow you to instantly access information on person who just challenged you on Xbox Live. Or you can even jump right to where you can find downloadable content for the game you are currently playing. The Xbox Guide button will also allow you to turn the Xbox 360 system on and off from the comfort of your couch. That is one great idea that is has long been overdue.

Xbox Live - There will be two types of Xbox Live for the Xbox 360.

The Silver version is free. It allows you to access the Xbox Live Marketplace as well as communicate with your friends using voice chat. However, you cannot play games online.

With the Gold version of Xbox Live, you get all of the possible features. Most importantly, you can play games online. Your achievements and statistics will be stored so you can check them whenever you want. You will also be able to use video chat and video messaging. Microsoft has announced that all new Xbox 360 owners will get Gold Service feature for the first month. After that, the pricing will be similar to Xbox Live on the current Xbox.

Xbox Live Marketplace. Another great feature of Xbox 360. The marketplace is an area where you will be able to download game demos and trailers as well as new content for games such as new levels, characters, vehicles, weapons, and many others. Some things are free of charge but you will have to pay for some premium content.

Digital Entertainment. The Xbox 360 allows you to rip your music to the hard drive to be used during games. It will also stream music off of any MP3 player that you plug into the USB 2.0 ports. This is including Sony PSP.

You can also upload photos to the hard drive and share them with your friends on Xbox Live. The Xbox 360 also features DVD movies. Unlike the original Xbox, the Xbox 360 can display them in progressive scan. It seems like DVD playback will be available out of the box and will not require the purchase of an extra remote or anything. Definitely an improvement.

Personalizing your console. With the interchangeable faces of the system itself, you can change the color of your system whenever you want by simply snapping on a new face.

You do not even have to buy new faces because you could simply paint the stock face yourself. It is guaranteed that Microsoft will roll out a line of limited edition and collectible faces to lure people in, though.

You will also be able to customize the look and feel of the Xbox Guide browser on the system. Suspiciously similar to changing themes in Windows on your computer. Customization is always a good thing and while these features do not really mean anything in the long run, they certainly provide a nice change every once in awhile.

Xbox 360 and its great features are a great deal unto itself.

Basically, the hard drive is the one playing a major role in how you can use the Xbox 360. You are given the choice of saving the progress of the game on the hard drive, as well as rip your CDs to it.

You can transfer music, videos, and photos from your mp3 player or other USB devices. It will also be necessary to spend more time on Xbox Live because custom content, patches, and other downloadable content needs to be put stored somewhere and a little 64MB memory card isn't going to cut it.

The hard drive is required for backwards compatibility. The other bonus to having such a hard drive is that loading time is faster especially in some games and other performances boosts.

With all these Xbox features up for grabs, what more can you ask for?

Get A Great Deal With Video Game Rental

Jane Calhoun asked:

Video game rental is the single best way to try video games before you buy. With many game prices starting at $30 and going as high as $50 and even higher, paying such high prices for video games that might be less than what you expected can be just too big a gamble.

While it's true that gamers can view "walkthroughs" screen shots online, and other online game samples are available to take a look at how a game works, there is nothing like actual hands on playing to find out whether it's something you will love, like or hate.

Just like movie rentals, video games are available to rent from many or most movie rental companies, along with some game stores and online as well. The big problem with renting form a local store, though, is that they rarely have a good selection, and it can be very expensive.

As a result, being able to rent video game online is making a big splash. Video game rental is the ultimate in convenience and cost savings. Especially with games for new game platforms exceeding $50, renting games can be a good alternative. Video game rental means you don't have to buy a game for $30 or more, but you can try games before buying to make sure it's a game you want to keep. Just like services like NetFlix or Blockbuster's movie service through the mail, game rental companies are springing up too.

For teens and older gamers, trying before buying can keep from spending hard-earned money on games that turn out to be duds. Gamers can try nearly every game that's on the market. And many video game rental companies let you keep the game you want to buy at a discount.

The companies that let you rent video game online have incredible selections of games, and have them for every platform on the market - handheld game systems like the Game Boy or Nintendo DS, through GameCube, and the high end too like Xbox, Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. For gamers that have multiple game systems, such as console as well as handheld, it helps to be able to choose games for short rental periods when going on vacation for example. For the games you want to rent, you can add them to a "queue" or list, and when one is returned, the next one is sent out.

But best of all, many game services offer credits that add up as you continue your subscription. These credits can be applied toward buying games. When you find a game you like, you can usually just keep it and they will send you the box and inserts, with free shipping. In just one sample of purchase pricing, a game that retails for $50 could be purchased for $27 after applying credits and discounts - a really great deal all around!

Video game rental is a great way to try out games before spending the ever-higher prices to buy them, and can even let you purchase a game at a discount. Many online video rental companies offer a free trial - it's worth it to see if it is right for you.

Video game cheat codes are designed to give gamers an added advantage in particular video games, which enables them to give their video game character infinite health, special abilities, or other necessary advantages that helps them to advance to the next level.

Know Your Guitar Heroes

Ewen Chia Ti Wah asked:

Historically speaking, there have been some awesome guitar players since the innovation and advancements which have made the electric guitar a reality. From the sixties on, guitar evolution has moved from the realm of fantasy into history and beyond. Guitar players throughout the generations have and continue to perform amazing feats on their guitars.

Among the great creators of classical electric guitar music was a man named Chuck Berry. After him came greats like Pete Townsend and Jimi Hindrix. The rocking sounds reverberating from their electric guitars shook the very foundations of society and music history. The electric guitar became an expression of entire generations and the guitar music of that was created still speaks in volumes to this very day.

Jimi Hendrix may very well hold one of the most impressive records on an electric guitar. In the Summer of Love, 1969, he played the National Anthem of the United States of America on his feet at a three-day music marvel known as Woodstock. The entire music festival at Woodstock was an historic event. However, if you ask any of the people that were there, the one thing that is remembered more than anything else was Jimi Hendrix playing the National Anthem with his feet.

In the seventies, the nation went through a transitional phase as disco made its brief passage through guitar history and then we moved into the nineteen eighties where big hair bands turned the guitar into a screaming and crying musical machine. Artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton made yet another mark on history by creating another new and amazing guitar craze mixing blues with rock and roll.

Throughout the eighties and into the early nineties, guitars took on a heavier tone as grunge and punk moved into the limelight. They were frequently interrupted by alternative bands as well, all of whom made their own little mark on guitar history.

As we move into the 21st century, room is there for the next Juke Box hero who will come up with the next latest and greatest guitar craze. All of these legends had one very common beginning and maybe even something in common with you as well. Each and every one of them started out with nothing more than a dream and a desire to learn to play the guitar. A good guitar guide could very well put you well on your way to becoming the next guitar hero.

How Guitar Hero Changed Family Friday Nights Forever

Chris Copeland asked:

For almost three whole months, all I ever heard was "can we get a Wii, please?" You see I have a family of three kids and the oldest even had the little one begging for it. I hesitated for a long time as I didn't want them simply laying around a TV all day with a little controller in there hand when they could be outstide having real fun instead. Before long, Christmas rolled around and that's when we decided to go ahead and get a Wii console for the kids as it would still let them be somewhat active as it seemed more interactive than simply pushing a few buttons and besides, we would make it a family game instead of someones personal entertainment console.

The first game we had actually came with the Wii console itself and was the sports package. This game turned out to be a real blast at family time as we could make some hot dogs and pop some popcorn and have our own little bowling tournaments and such. My middle child that has an age difference of about 5 years to her older brother actually got so good at it, that she started beating him. It was really exciting to see how they interacted and was relating to each other. It actually started bringing them closer together with the friendly and sometimes not so friendly competition.

We soon found out though, that as with most sports (real or virtual) you either like it and it sticks with you or it becomes old and boring and soon forgotten and never to be played again. Thus, Wii Sports went by the wayside into that unplayed bin of games that never fails to accumulate. I still like it though so it does see some action these days. We started looking around some more for different games that we might all still enjoy together and that's when we stumbled onto Guitar Hero.

This game has truly revolutionized our Friday nights as we now know it. It took a little getting used to but soon my son and I were playing on the more difficult levels and actually trading secrets on how to hit those notes that seem to be flying at you. Now, instead of taking the family to the movies or heading out to dinner and spending close to a hundred dollars every Friday, we hold our own little mini-concerts in the comfort of our own home and only end up denting the budget for about twenty dollars with a much needed and aligned Friday night together and some simple fast food. Besides, who has time to cook when you can be heating up the guitar instead.

Get Supersmash Bros Brawl Asap

Guy O Scott asked:

Nintendo's Wii game repertoire added a new stud in 2008 when it launched its highly successful and competitive Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Children and adults alike have embraced this unique fun-filled video rough-housing. With an ESRB rating of teen, Super Smash Bros. Brawl stands ready for in-house cartoon-like battles or for internet bouts with newfound friends form around then world.

Cartoon combatants such as the celebrated Mario, Mario's arch nemesis Wario, Samus Aran from Metroid, Donkey Kong, Pikachu from Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog, Princess Zelda and Link from the Legend of Zelda lead an all-star cast of 37 uniquely depicted and illustrated stars that are designed to keep teens, their parents and friends involved in the belly laughs and menacing tactics necessary to survive Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is actually a third generation Nintendo program and follows the successful Super Smash Bros. Melee, released in 2001, which successfully improved Super Smash Bros. A lot of the characters in SSBB will be recognizable to parents.

Graphics are stunning and scenes are vividly portrayed as each battling storyline unfolds. While the quirky characters are cartoonish in nature, the game is filled with humorous but violent scenes and gestures. Nothing on the screen matches the intensity of those person-person same room battles however.

These brawls can be contested by a many as four players whose goals are to punch, kick, throw or strike opponents from their platform. The Super Smash Bros. Brawl battles can be waged at home or on the internet with opposition logged on through the "Friend Code" option. To participate in these bouts, all players need to log in through their respective "Friend Codes."

The story concept allows for selection of numerous adventure themes from the Subspace Emissary. The older Mario Brothers games have lots of similarities to SSBB. games and keep players dodging, weaving, jumping and ducking through fast-paced, challenging episodes.

Parents may notice crude humor, taunting and cartoon styled violence which Nintendo compares to the cat and mouse humor in old versions of Tom and Jerry Saturday morning viewing. But, parents and children alike should understand that these Wii games feature mock violence from beginning to end. The success of the programs is based upon competitive battling with friends and family members that keep the contests and challenges coming.

Brawl venues include tournaments, special and varied battle scenes and the most popular four player face-offs. In this new version of the game, players can compete over the internet. While it is fun to battle in the family room, it is no longer necessary to have an opponent right there by your side. Basically, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a pickup fighting game where challengers from around the world are easy to find.

This Nintendo Wii game is so popular that it has transformed household game playing. Today's family contests last for hours and often begin with challenging chants of "let's get it on." Nintendo has done it again!
