Best video games of 2008

The best video games of 2008, so far at least, have been very good. There is no doubting, that the Wii, Playstation 3 and X360 and even the handheld DS have given us some great titles. To include one from each:

Metal Gear Solid 4: PS3

While the PS3 might be lagging behind the Wii and X360, there can be no denying that in this title it undoubtedly has a strong contender for best game on all formats. It is a show-case for the Playstation 3 and its capabilities.

Undoubtedly, its audio-visual presentation is some of the best witnessed in a video game. This is an area, that the console has some superiority over the Wii and X360. Screenshots like these, best demonstrate the game's graphics: "He hides, behind a rock.

Aside from the technical side, the game also has great game-play and story telling. It has lengthy story sequences, which combine game-play and narrative most effectively. The game-play has also been cleaned up a little making close quarter combat more efficient.

Overall, the game is difficult to fault. Reviews have rated the game very highly indeed.

Braid: X360

Who would have thought that 2d-platform game titles, could still get a look in? Braid proves they are alive and well, and can still be as good as, if not better than 3d platform games.

This Xbox title mixes platforms with puzzles. The puzzles offer a good challenge, but are not impossible. Likewise, the pinpoint controls, enables crisp game-play.

It combines its game-play with a great story. It keeps you interested in the game throughout, up until the ending, which makes for a fine ending.

Although 2d, it has some great art design, which enhance the game. Visually, "it is eye-catching. The audio is also great, with music that complements the mood of the game.

Overall, the game proves that 2d platform games can flourish in a 3d age. It's the best exclusive game on the Xbox.

Super Smash Bros Brawl: Wii

Despite the quality of the aforementioned game titles, the Wii continues to hold sway with most punters. In addition, Super Smash Bros undoubtedly has been one of its trump cards.

Famous Nintendo game characters are pitted against each other, in the ring, with Super Smash Bros. The character roster is as big as ever, with some 35 Nintendo characters to choose from. Despite the size, it remains very well balanced.

Game variety is something this game has in spades. There are many ways to customise the matches, and a single player adventure mode also. This combined with multi-player give many game-play options.

Graphically, it is one of the best Wii titles. In this screen shot, Diddy and Bowser confront. With an impressive soundtrack to boot, Super Smash Bros is one of the best games on the console.

Final Fantasy IV: DS

The best hand held game of the year is Final Fantasy IV, on the DS. Another addition to the Final Fantasy series is brought to the DS. In addition, it is not disappointing.

For starters, it is in 3d, and is one of the best DS games graphically, (view screenshot). The characters have style, and the dungeons are rendered in 3d, with size and depth.

The game also offers the chance to customize characters. This makes for some of the more memorable game character in the series.

With such new features, and story elements, it is one of the best additions to the franchise. Likewise, it makes for one of the best 2008 games.

These games are the best exclusive 2008 titles released on the console platforms. Overall, some might consider Metal Gear to be the best game. However, it's not that easy a call.

Speculating on the future of video games

Video games can be a lot of fun. There is so much variety these days that there is truly something for everyone in the video game world. Over the past 10 ten years, video games have evolved so much. Remember Atari, with the paddle you moved back and forth to hit the ball? From black and white video games, to one of the newest systems, the Nintendo Wii, video games have changed so much.

The Nintendo Wii is one of the latest systems out on the market. It uses some of the latest technology in which you are able to feel like you are actually in the video game. Playing with the Wii remote and nun chuck, you can actually be one of the characters. It actually can become quite a workout in a sense it is like you are actually fighting, or racing, or whatever the game may be.

Wii like video games

Take the video game Dance Dance Revolution for example. This was one of the best video games ever made in my opinion. You hooked the dance mat up to your video game system and followed the on screen cues for your every move. They even had a workout mode to see at the end of each session how many calories you have burned. Now this was high tech!

I think that video games are going to be around to stay. With the Playstation 3 system, you actually have the capability to be able to browse the internet, check your email, and all sorts of things. You are able to be playing against someone across the world if you would like to. It doesn't even cost you a penny to do these things, you just need to have wireless internet in your home.

Video games are going to become more like virtual reality. Your moves are going to dictate what your characters on screen are doing. This is also going to make more family fun nights, in my opinion. More families are going to be sitting around the television and playing video games because there is more interaction for the whole family to see and do.

The only downfall to these new and upcoming systems is that they are going to be really expensive. They are really bad now, at the average of fifty dollars for one game. If you can afford the game systems, I would recommend renting the games and trying them before you purchase them. It can get really outrageous if you buy every one you are interested in.

Is there a unique American mission in the world today?

Under Bill Clinton, the US retired from public duty on the world stage and tended to specialise in the dark world of black ops via its own secret agencies, but this policy of isolationism only meant a loss of public engagement with the serious threats to the West represented by Arab medievalism and its many fundamentalisms. Isolationism has its merits of course, if one is looking for a totally sealed economy and one that is self-supporting, and many economists after the manner of Friedman backed the young Clinton and his younger administration. Still the world would be easily hijacked by a whole range of new threats to world order and universal brotherhood if the US were to retire from the stage of history and quietly mothball the Pax Americana. There is a certain amount of duty called for - a culture of public duty required maybe. Also financially, new world order interventionism can be costly if wars are allowed to go on for any length of time. The object of the exercise was to snatch Saddam, and not necessarily too much by way of optimism or western philanthropy. Containing Harvard aspirations on the stage of military ops is perhaps the best short-term solution to the current problems with regard to interventionism. This more globalised snatch doctrine rather than a certain drift back into the cocoons of isolationism is perhaps the best option, though now with a new stronger Russia, the US might have to assert more credentials when adopting its preferred job as a global policing economy. The military industrial complex that arises may actually lift the US economy from the doldrums of the usual advices to states in transition.

Have you been to your local electronic store? What seems to be the video game system all of the parents are buying? The top video game consoles seem to be XBOX,Play-station,Playstaion 2, Play-station 3, PSP, Wii, and Game-cube. I'll start will XBOX. One great thing about buying an XBOX is you can play with other players on-line. Lets say you are rocking out on Guitar Hero when you see your friend just signed in. You can invite him to play multi-player with you. How cool is that? It is also known as XBoX live and the only bad thing is you have to subscribe. The play-station was one of the first play-station series of game counsels and hand held controllers. The play-station is able to hold memory in a memory card which you have to buy. Keeping in mind since it was the first video game counsels it will most likely have more games available for play. The play-station 2 unlike the XBOX only have on-line play available for some games. Just like the play-station the play-station 2 has a memory card. The play-station 2 is also able to play dvd'. The play-station 3 offers on-line gaming service. It also has a good shape because it can stand up with flexibility. The play-station 3 is also compatible with blue-ray disc. The PSP is known as a play-station portable. The PSP has a large screen and has the Internet. The PSP can come in many different colors which people like. The Wii is very nice because there are wireless controllers known as a Wii remote. The Wii is Nintendo smallest counsel right now. The Wii is just an advancement of the Nintendo Game-cube. The Nintendo 64 Has many issues. I would not recommend buying it. It has horrible graphics which slow down everything loading and it just makes the players annoyed. one thing all of the game counsels have in common is they all have the same games. Game makers make games in different platforms so that people who have different video game systems can buy the game and then the game makers make more money. therefore parents no matter what platform you buy at-least your kids can play something instead of begging you to go out and do something.

The gaming market can be a difficult one at times, and recently the market has witnessed many different alternatives to the usual market. The new line of systems that has been released recently are the Play station 3, XBOX 360, and the Nintendo Wii. Although each system has its advantages, they are all good choices.

The Playstation 3 is one of the best machines currently available because of its multitude of functions. For instance, the Playstation 3 has been rated the best blu-ray player on the market by CNET and Amazon. The Playstation 3 allows all members of the family to have a good time. For the younger children, there are acceptable, challenging games available off the Playstation on-line store. For the teens, there are games that are available in all stores. Finally, for the parents, the Playstation 3 offers the best Blu-ray experience that is constantly upgraded and improved. Another plus with this system, is the lack of controller cords due to a wireless Bluetooth system. One of the prime disadvantages is the price of games which is around sixty dollars for a new game. Also, there have been complaints with the Playstation 3's internet performance, and overheating. Another problem with the Playstation 3, is its failure to read and run Playstation 2 games. However, it will play Playstation 1 games.

The Nintendo Wii is a whole new breed of gaming system that is available to the public. This system actually forces players to exercise while playing the games. It is a good alternative to the Playstation 3 but the Wii is not able to play any DVD's. Additionally, many precautions must be taken before playing your Wii, skins absolutely must be put on the controllers as well as wrist bands. There have been several rare problems, where batteries will be ejected from the Wii-mote and lodged in television screens. However, this problem is rare, and can be avoided with a skin over your wii-mote. Another nice feature of the Wii, is its ability to play games from the Gamecube game counsel.

The XBOX 360 is Microsoft's version of a game system. The system is fairly good and offers a large variety in game choice. The controllers are wireless, and the system plays games rather smoothly. However, I would not recommend the XBOX 360 chiefly because of its low life expectancy. The XBOX 360 can also play games from the XBOX and you can get an HD-DVD adapter that is sold separately.

In the field of the hand held game systems, the PSP and the Nintendo DS face-off. The Sony PSP is a hand-held version of the Playstation 3 and it is actually able to communicate with the Playstation 3. The PSP offers games to a mature age group and does not offer as much as the DS in terms of games for younger age groups. The Nintendo DS is closely related to the Nintendo Wii, but cannot communicate with the Wii. The DS operates with a stylus on a touch-screen. The system is great for younger age groups, but some extra styluses are suggested since they are not connected to the system and can be lost.

In short, age groups determine everything for parents when they look to the video game system, the following bullets show my recommendations.

XBOX 360 is great for older and more mature kids

Playstation 3 is great for the majority of kids and parents

The Nintendo Wii is a great choice for many kids and is an enjoyable system for all.

The PSP is great for older kids

The DS is great for younger kids.

Benefits of playing video games – Part 4

I believe certain video games allow you to have a benefit because video games give you creativity. It takes you to a place you could never go in real life. Video games are like dreams that come to life on a T.V screen. These days there are video games that express somebody's dream in the world. There are games that you play on the new Wii made by Nintendo. Wii is probably the best Nintendo has every done because everybody can play Wii. An I mean exactly get to be part of the game like your exactly doing the driving, the flying, the sword fights with your control. I read in last months ESx I believe that is the name of the magazine. Anyways, it has a survey of senior citizens that played Wii an really enjoyed it. They said they would of whether be playing this video games instead of knitting. I believe they liked it so much because they could drive, fly, or get around as good as they use to. So they really enjoyed being able to do all those things they use to even if it was on a screen. It felt better than real life because it was fantasy I think dreams and fantasy are better than real life. All these games really take you to what you consider your dream come true. I mean you get the benefit of being entertained most likely never bored that is for sure. I mean I have played many video games in my life. I prefer the Super Nintendo which was the video game I ever played an got hooked on it. I stayed up all not playing Super Mario Bros. The best game I feel that has every came out. My benefit from that one though was just being a kid an having something to do on Friday nights and after homework time.

Benefits of playing video games

All videos games that are enjoyable are already beneficial because it gives you something to do for relaxation. Unlike the TV where you just watch and do not interact, you are always interacting with video games. It has been proved that the amount of brain activity that goes on inside ones head is greater in video games then many other activities like watching TV. You are always thinking and reacting to what goes in in the video game. Not all video games have the same benefits but they do have them none the less.

Fitness and Weight Loss

The Nintendo Wii video games are probably the most well known video games for exercise. While these games are fun you are burning away the calories that you need to loose for you diet. Others play the Wii to stay in shape.

Nintendo Wii Line @ Times Sq. -NY NY

Logic and Strategy

Games that have puzzles and logical problems such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic are great way to test you ability to solve problems. These can even sometimes teach you new ways of thinking and keep you on your toes.

Literacy and Writing

While your not going to find too many games that will expand your vocabulary you will find an exceptionally large amount of games that have reading in them. Games that are found on the Nintendo DS use text to explain evens going on and how you know what the characters in the game are saying. This also applies even to almost all games.

Retaining Memory

MMOs are probably the best examples for memory games. The thing about an MMO is that there is so much to do. You have to remember what you did before or you will have to relearn it. Other games that are on the smaller scale might be card matching games or Mario Tennis.

Reflexes

The first person shooter games are the best examples of helping improve your reflexes. You have you react as fast and as accurately as possible to success in these games. People who play these types of game usually have a higher average concerning their speed of reflexes.

Typing

Games that support multi-player or games that depend on multi-player such as MMOs heavily promote typing. I have learned how to type through video games, and I have them to thank for it. Many of my friends have learned to type through video games.

Learning a Foreign Language

This one is not too common but like people learn foreign languages through TV, people do learn foreign languages through video games. This can apply to pretty much any video game that has speech and/or text.

Parents purchasing a video game console for their children to use confront a barrage of ads for games or systems designed to cause the same kind of "Please Dad" or "Please Mom" frenzy as Disney characters on cereal boxes. The first thing parents need to keep in mind is that just because an ad for a game includes the line "now available for Playstation 3" doesn't mean that this is the only video game system that runs that game; accordingly you don't have to buy that one immediately. New games run on all popular systems; older games are usually updated for those popular systems. Classic versions of older games can usually be found for your PC even if they don't run on your video game system. You can always rent games for current consoles. Check into what your local video store actually stocks. They may not support every platform.

Make your kids list all the games they think they must play, and promise absolutely nothing except that you'll carry it with you and also send it to Santa. Don't be surprised if they list a few of your own old favorites: Tetris is eternal. Make a special effort to get them to list games that don't take a lot of time to play, those that involve whole-body movement (Nintendo Wii games especially), those where multiple players in the same room have some motive for social conversations and contact, those that develop coordination and music and sports skills, those that aren't so violent and those the whole family can play together.

Consider a Playstation 2 or other older but still current console. If your kids are very young and active already, may benefit from sit-down hand and eye skill development activity, and aren't likely to complain that they don't have what their friends have, you might purchase many great games that someone else's kids are bored with - for cheap. An older Playstation 2 (or even Microsoft XBOX, original Sony Playstation or Nintendo 64) with a lot of games may be more fun than a Playstation 3, XBOX 360 or Nintendo Gamecube or Wii with a couple of games and no rental budget. As with computers, compatibility counts. You can pick up what your kids friends have, then encourage your kids to swap games back and forth with their friends. If their friends upgrade to Playstation 3 and HDTV, perhaps you can buy their old Playstation 2.

If you're short of cash, you'll be renting more, buying less and avoiding expensive addictive online social gamesr. Gamecube is tempting - it isn't as good online as Playstation 3 and won't lead to anyone demanding you buy a new HDTV. But if you already have HD, Playstation 3's built in Blu-Ray player lets you distract from expensive online games with HD movies. Any XBOX 360 will invariably get hooked up to Microsoft's excellent Live service. Which still costs less than World of Warcraft.

If you buy new, then recognize hidden costs and risks. What you pay for a console and accessories is only the start; you are actually shaping how your kids spend their time for years. Would you buy a musical instrument based solely on its price or steer your kids to the cheapest one? Not unless you want to replace it very quickly.

A state of the art game console may be the only acceptable option for teens: Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360 or Playstation 3. Since Blu-Ray is now the only HD movie or game format, Playstation 3 appeals to movie buffs. XBOX 360 is clearly the best online platform. Wii supports the most active physical games and is best for inactive kids or families that want to play together. For portable gaming Playstation users need PSP and Wii users need Nintendo DS lite. XBOX users have to rely on Live and Windows Mobile to integrate their mobile phone.

A look at the most popular video game console systems

Are you under pressure from the kids to buy a video game system? If you feel bewildered by the choice, cost and suitability for your child fear not, we can help.

Firstly let's consider what is on the market. You'll no doubt have heard of the top video game consoles, manufactured by Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony. Each game console has it's benefits and drawbacks so we'll look at each briefly to give you an overview of what you'd be getting.

Playstation 3 is the imaginatively titled successor to the Sony Playstation and Playstation 2. The newest and costliest video game system at $400 for a 40GB model, it's the most powerful for graphics and sound, offering high definition picture and 5.1 surround sound. You get Wi-Fi straight out of the box allowing you to play online. The controllers are wireless and have basic motion sensing. The 40GB model is not backwards compatible with Playstation 2 games, but other models are.

The games are aimed at the 18-30 male market, with many age restricted titles coming out, such as the recent GTA IV. The Playstation 3 provides next generation graphics and is future proof, being a Blu-ray Disc player with HDMI connectivity for the best pictures.

The Nintendo Wii game console retails at $250. What it lacks in graphical power it makes up with innovation. The wireless Wii Remote resembles a TV remote and allows you to control the action using physical gestures. The Wii has Wi-Fi for web browsing and downloading games from Nintendo's earlier consoles, including the NES and Nintendo 64. The Wii is backwards compatible with the Nintendo Gamecube.

The games, such as Wii Sports, are aimed at a wider demographic than the other consoles and many games are multi-player. Due to the unique controller young and old are able to play. With innovative ideas, such as the recent Wii Fit, which aims to get us exercising, the Wii is perfect for families and social gaming

Microsoft's XBOX 360 video games console, in terms of power is similar to the Playstation 3. The casual user would find it hard to distinguish between the two, with the same HD and surround sound output. You can also subscribe to the popular XBOX Live online service with a Wireless Network Adapter, costing $100. The console comes in 3 packages to suit any budget, ranging from $280 to $450. The 360 is backwards compatible with some standard XBOX games but you do need to be internet connected.

The 360 is aimed at the same demographic as the Playstation 3. What you do need to be aware of is the 'exclusive' titles that only appear on one platform. For instance Halo is XBOX only and Gran Turismo Playstation only.

There are two hand held video game consoles on the market. Sony's PSP and the Nintendo DS. Like the Wii the DS has a unique control system, in this case touch screen, and is aimed at the same wide audience of young and old. The PSP is a portable Playstation 2 and will appeal primarily to teenage boys and young men.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 22

The Wii is a far better console than the Playstation 3. The PS3 does have higher graphics, however it is similar to the PS2 other than higher graphics and more tiny features. On the flip side on the coin, the Wii totally revolutionized video game consoles. Its interactive game play makes you feel like you are part of the actual thing, especially in the sports games. In the sports game you can actually tackle, or swing a baseball bat, or even bowl! Another plus of the Wii is that it gets rid of the one negative of video games; it gets you moving and off your behind! The Wii is also much more popular with all different groups of people, and its diverse selection of games, blows away the PS3's by a mile. The Wii is the complete package, and much, much, cheaper at only $250.00! What a deal!

Video game reviews: Cranium Kabookii (Wii)

Cranium Kabookii is the adaptation of the Cranium board game to the Wii platform. The principle of playing Cranium on the Wii is perfect; a game intended to get players involved in the game by moving and thinking. But Cranium Kabookii unfortunately comes up short. Don't get me wrong; if you enjoy the board game, you'll enjoy this game without a second thought. But if you aren't a fan, you'll find the game lacking in a few areas.

The game features 15 different mini games, played with one Wii remote and supporting an unlimited number of players (minimum 4). The mini games are separated into the same four sections as the board game, including Creative Cat (Drawing), Data Head (Trivia), Word Worm (Word Puzzles/Codes), and Star Performer (Acting). Also included is a special pair of red goggles that conceal the answers and clues to the other players in the room.

Nintendo Wii Line @ Times Sq. -NY NY

The game suffers from the unreliable control scheme of the Wii remote. The mime mini game is basically unplayable, and every time it comes up it's essentially an automatic loss. And the loading time to play a mini game, which happens every turn, is excessive. There's no reason the loading times should take as long as they do on the Wii.

Cranium Kabookii is pretty limited as a video game, and it lacks the options a video game adaptation could have. The only way to play the games is to spin the wheel and have a mini game selected randomly for you. The function to pick and chose your games without having to play through a complete game of Cranium should have been added, and without it, Kabookii becomes much more limited than the board game.

If you own the Cranium board game, you'll have fun with this on the Wii. If you don't own the board game yet, or you aren't a fan of the game in the first place, I suggest you hold off on Cranium Kabookii for a while and buy the original.

Overall Rating of Cranium Kabookii if you're a fan of the board game = 4/5

Overall Rating of Cranium Kabookii if you aren't a fan of the board game = 2/5

Video game reviews: Rock Band (Xbox 360, PS3)

Have you ever wanted to be in a band, and get the feeling what it is like to go on tour and have millions of fans screaming at how awesome you are? We now you can do with from the comfort of your living room. Rock Band for the XBOX 360 and the Playstation 3 does a fantastic job of incorporating video games and music. Not only is it good for video game developers, but artists and bands get to have their share of the game.

The entire Rock Band package comes with a drum kit, a guitar and a USB microphone. If you want to be able to play with one person on guitar and one person on bass, then you will need to purchase another guitar to use. Rock Band 2 comes with 84 songs to play, and for about $5.00 more, you can export all of the songs from the Rock Band 1 disc to your hard drive to play through Rock Band 2. Also there is a music store where you can purchase more songs to play for about $2.00 each. Right now there are a total of over 500 songs that can be played.

I already have a Nintendo Wii. When I found out that Rock Band 2 was going to be available I was pretty excited, but after I looked into it some more, then I realized that the Nintendo Wii was not going to be adequate enough. I remember when the first Rock Band came out for the Wii, many people were disappointed with it. With Rock Band 2 on the Wii, they integrated the Music Store into it, but for all of the music that you can download, it did not seem that the hard drive on the Wii would be able to hold all of the songs. Also if you wanted to play the Rock Band 1 songs on the Wii, you would have to change the discs as opposed to being able to export them to your hard drive like you can on the XBOX 360. Also the graphics on the XBOX 360 compared to the Wii are a lot better as far as detail is concerned.

The songs that are included on the discs and the ones that are available in the Music Store to download are really great rock songs. Some of the artists that you can download and play include the Foo Fighters, the Offspring, Lenny Kravitz, and more. Not only do they have these great new artists, but they are included some classics like the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Kansas, and more. They are creating quite a collection of songs to be able to play.

Now some of the downfalls of the game. First of all, if you guy the new wireless drum controller, make sure to be ready to by many, many AA batteries. The controller takes 3 AA batteries to power up the set, and they usually only last me a week or two depending

Choosing a video game console – Part 2

The first issue you should consider when buying a video game system is what type of system you are looking for. In the past, there were only two options: console or portable. Today, the Nintendo Wii adds a third, more interactive, option. So you may want to have a small portable system that can be used in most situations such as the PSP and Nintendo DS, or you may be more interested in a system that is less versatile, but has many other advantages such as the Xbox 360, PS3, or Nintendo Wii.

Perhaps the most important consideration is that of the game selection that comes with each system. In years past, games like Grand Theft Auto and Halo have made the PS2 and Xbox respectively highly desirable options, while the GameCube had a somewhat more limited range of available games. With the unique nature of the Wii, it is yet to be seen whether this will continue to be an issue for Nintendo systems.

Graphics are a very important consideration as anyone who has watched the evolution of video games has seen first-hand. What was seen to be remarkable ten years ago is of terrible quality compared to what is available now. The question is what kind of quality you feel that you need. If the last system you owned was the Super Nintendo, moving up to the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation would be a major upgrade. However, if you are looking for the best graphics, look into the newest generation of games.

Another consideration that a buyer should think about involves the accessories and alternate uses that each console has. For example, in comparing the PS2 and the GameCube, while the GameCube is cheaper and arguably has better graphics, it cannot play DVDs or regular CDs - the PS2 can. Memory also comes into play. The Xbox has built-in memory, but the PS2 and GameCube require separate memory cards. Finally, what type of controller suits you? The Wii gains major points for uniqueness and potential, but you might want something more traditional, or because of space issues, the Wii remote may not be practical for you.

The concern that hangs over every decision that must be made is, of course, that of money. While the most attractive consoles may be the Wii and the PS3, they may be out of your price range. In that case, the GameCube, PS2, and Xbox are all fine lower-cost options. A new GameCube can be found for as low as $50 while the current PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii prices are all well over $200, with the PS3 as high as $600.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 21

First of all lets look at the question shall we? I quote "Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii?". The question did not ask which one is cheaper therefore the fact that 2 wii's are the same price as one PS3 is irrelevant. There is no argument about it the PS3 is expensive compared to the wii however it is the better console by far. To start with lets look at problems with the wii.

Nintendo Wii Line @ Times Sq. -NY NY

There are some serious problems with the wii and i shall list some of them.

* No DVD playback support

* Only one controller comes standard!

* The innovative controller is far from precise and many call it "annoying".

* No blue tooth.

* No blue ray.

* Not many multi player options.

* No HDTV support.

* Bad graphics in comparison.

* Some games take long to load.

* Online capabilities are non-existent with 3rd party games.

The PS3 on the other hand;

* Does have DVD playback support.

* Does have blue ray.

* Will have HDMI(high definition multimedia interface) as standard.

* Many multi-player options.

* Really good graphics.

* wi-fi capabilities

* plays PS2 games compared to the wii which only plays wii games.

* very good user friendly wireless controllers.

* very powerful (short loading times)

The PS3 is as good as the wii is bad. The PS3 is simply for the serious gamer who expects and receives the better console!

Video game reviews: Rockstar Table Tennis (Wii)

September 20, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment

Joining the ranks of popular sports video games such as Madden Football and NBA Live, comes the competitive sport known as Rockstar table tennis for the Nintendo wii. The Nintendo wii version is a virtual reality like simulation of table tennis. The game of table tennis is mostly like real tennis, only the pads are smaller and the arena is actually a table. Similar to tennis, players try to hit the ball back and forth to the other opponent until the players opponent is unable to hit the ball back. Strategic wise the game allows the user to outmaneuver the opponent into not hitting the ball back to the opponent, and therefore missing the return serve of the game. Table tennis players are known for their stamina, hand coordination, and of course high speed spinning serves.

Rockstar table tennis is the perfect compliment to wii remote. Most video game players have a choice to use the wii remote in a variety of ways such as the standard version where the gamer uses the remote like a remote or the sharp shooter movement which allows the gamer to use the nun chuck part of the wii remote.Clearly the innovativeness of the wii censor control remote allows the player to pick up and play, as if your forrest gump perfecting the art of table tennis or ping pong as some people may call it. Nintendo wii's version of Rockstar Table tennis has a lot of levels for the gamer to play and has unlockable levels in the game to be unlocked. The addition of more levels allows the gamer to play more tournaments and single one on one championship games. Sadly for all the tournament play in Rockstar table tennis there is no hall of fame or career mode for the game to play. Overall, Rockstar table tennis is the perfect game to play on the Nintendo wii with its addictive use of the wii remote and the competitive use of tournament play.

Mii avatars for the Nintendo Wii video gamers

The Nintendo Mii avatars is one of the best features of the Nintendo Wii video game. Not only are you actively doing the activities in each game as you are seeing yourself in the game. Video games are best known for allowing a person to step into a virtual world by way of a controller. Now players can literally see themselves in this virtual world, adding more to this virtual experience.

Nintendo Wii Line @ Times Sq. -NY NY

The player is allowed more control as to who they want to be in a game, giving them more control that they had in previous games with already made avatars.

If you want to (and have the time), you can make your favorite celebrities become your avatar through easy step by step tutorials. Just click here http://www.wiiwii.tv/tag/celeb rity-mii-avatars/ and see for yourself.

Additionally, the Mii avatars give you a chance to become creative. Rather than being stuck with a character who probably doesn't have the same skin tone or facial features as you do, you can create one for yourself and all of your friends. This makes a baseball game all the more fun when you can see your friend batting rather than an avatar you don't even really know.

The avatar creation section becomes a new exciting game in itself as you become involved in how your avatar looks. It's not just a feature but a whole new gaming experience. I mean, how great is it to see your own Mii when you are playing with the Wii boxing. Seeing your opponent (it could be your friend's face) cry while you are beating them is priceless.

Speculating on the future of video games – Part 1

Nintendo Wii Line @ Times Sq. -NY NY

It started with a simple set of two-dimensional paddles and a ricocheting ball. Pong, with just three rudimentary objects on the entire screen, was part of the first movement that brought video games into the limelight. Soon after came the black and white space classic Asteroids, bringing a host of new motions; instead of being able to just move a paddle up or down, you could fire a weapon, move freely around the screen, and interact with numerous other objects.

Within a few years, the Nintendo Entertainment System came out and Super Mario Brothers brought color, larger worlds, more interaction, and improved sound quality. By the time the 1990s rolled around, video games had begun advancing at a rapid pace, cementing themselves as a mainstay of American popular culture.

The current situation of gaming is one of a revolution - the X-Box 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii are all taking great steps forward in graphics, world sizes, and realism. Standing out in the current group is the Wii which allows gamers to use their own physical motions to play the game. To play a baseball game, swing the Wii remote as you would a real bat and move your arm in the same motion as that you would use to throw a ball (just make sure you do not actually throw the remote). It is this type of system - this concept - that embodies the future of video gaming.

As the Wii has been out for only a short time, it has only scratched the surface of what it may be capable of. As more types of games jump into the mix and as more feedback is gathered, the Wii's potential of being almost virtual reality will continue to be realized. The Wii's controller is designed best for first-person games and sports games. Still, it essentially focuses exclusively on the actions of the arms.

Eventually, system developers will try to find ways to incorporate the rest of the body into the action. The motions of the legs, running and jumping, are essential for progressing the lifelike concept brought by the Wii. Beyond the arms and legs, the full-body motions of the head and torso are likely to be addressed. They are essential for a true simulation of sports like basketball and football, fighting games, fantasy games, and a host of others.

One of the most highly anticipated titles today is the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The ability to use the game's remote as the character's lightsaber is intriguing, to say the least. Now imagine adding the ability to bend

Nintendo Wii Video Games Downloaden

The Nintendo Wii continues to go from strength to strength. It has become obvious that it’s here to stay. Just about every other guy and his brother are into Wii. Without doubt, the main draw among all its great features has to be the games. Nintendo Wii Video Games have entered a new dimension and Wii gamers will now never have enough of them.

The Wii is rocking big time and gamers want their Video Games for Wii fast, convenient and low-cost. With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that the savvier gamers are increasingly turning to online sources for their Wii games. Yes, Downloadable Wii Games are readily available over the internet.

Practically all Nintendo Wii Games are downloadable. If they are offered on a commercial basis, they will be inherently downloadable. Downloading Wii games is possible in various ways, the most common of which are Wii Virtual Console through the Wii Shop Channel, peer-to-peer torrent sites and commercial Wii download service providers.

Wii Virtual Console offers the online convenience and immediacy. It saves time, effort and more significantly of late, gasoline of driving around unless of course if you enjoy the physical shopping itself. Being e-products, the games will never encounter stock-outs either. Having these said, they still leave a lot to be desired in the area of pricing.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) or torrent sites are also friendly and convenient. Wii video games, or any other stuff for that matter, are downloadable free-of-charge. The problem with them is that the downloading process is often problematic and the quality of the download questionable. On top of that, all sorts of malware lurk and worse still, identity theft too.

Online Wii download service providers are the way to go for heavy-duty Wii gamers. The downloading is completed in a matter of minutes, accessible from anywhere and virtually free. Fees are one-time for a lifetime. Unlimited download, all-genre, free software and tools, 24/7 technical support and money-back guarantee are standard features. It’s the best option.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 9

September 1, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

I think interactive is what people wanted and that's what they got with the Wii. It's what was in demand. The PS3 failed because not enough people cared about good graphics or shooter games.

People wanted a family-friendly, educational, and a console that got people off the couch while playing video games. Parents were more willing to buy this kind of console because it made them exercise and it didn't rot their brains with violence and gore. Kids wanted it because it was interactive and they could play it more because parents actually approved of a video game console for once. Single adults wanted it because it is really fun to play in groups. Senior citizens sort of wanted it because there are less buttons to get confused over.

The games available for it also helped with it's popularity. Wii Sports, the game the comes with the Wii when you buy it, is a simple, interactive game that let's you play the main sports of the world while utilizing the sensitivity of the Wiimote. Tennis is the most popular of the sports. Among the people I know including my mom, Tennis was the most fun experience they had with any game they've ever played. Wii Play, another one of the first games that came out for the Wii, made you use brain your while Wii Sports made you use your body. Cooking Mama, best for avid fans of the culinary arts, used the Wiimote's sensitivity to make you use your brain as well as your body. In this game, it's all about precision and energy. In a new game that just came out, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you can use the Wii's Wi-Fi connectivity to play with people around the world. In games that are coming soon, Wii Fit and Endless Ocean, you can utilize the educational and healthy exercise programs these games offer.

You can also turn the off using the Wiimote. This function just goes to show that the Wii really uses its wireless part. The wireless factor also makes it easier to put away the controllers. No wires means less tangling for you to sort out. It's also easier to put Cd's in it. The Wii will just suck up the game you put in. The PS3 may also have this function, but the Wii does it cooler. It's backward function allows you to play Gamecube games as well. That's for those who want to play Gamecube games. Just plug a Gamecube controller into the top, put in a Gamecube CD and you can start playing. Although nothing compares to actually being outside and doing things, the Wii gets pretty darn close.

I'm donating any money I make to the NAA, because my brother has Autism and I love him very much.

Video games: The pros and cons of innovation

August 26, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

As many of you already know, the electronic game scene has been leaping forward for several years now. From the time Atari came out in 1977, games have continued to change drastically. Atari was a simple game system that was capable of 8-bit performance. Recently created systems shatter that number. Wired controllers have become a thing of the past and now many revolutionary ideas for game systems have been emerging. Touch screens are being featured on the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii's use of a motion sensor controller is expanding realism in video games. These features are designed to open up the gaming scene for more people. The features make playing some games just a plain old good time. This was their aim, but the question is, have they achieved their goal.

I have put the main focus on Nintendo due to the fact that they lead the way in innovative ideas. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 do not really have anything extraordinarily innovative, though they do have consistantly great graphics and gameplay. The DS has a touch screen and many games were designed to appeal to a larger audience. Games like Brain Age and Big Brain Academy are fun for everyone in a family. I myself have Brain Age and everyone in my family plays it. Even my mother, who is not a game person at all, enjoys playing it. Nintendo Wii has games that are similar, which are simple and easy to learn. These make them compatible for everyone. Games like those featured in Wii sports are fun, yet so simple that everyone could enjoy them. My father and uncle who usually are not too big on games were having a great time when playing bowling on Wii sports. Although the Wii may be hard to adjust to, with time gamers will master the advanced abilities that this new system brings to the new generation of gaming.

As of what I have seen, innovation in video games and game systems seems excellent. As said by many, formerly uninterested people have developed a sudden interest in video games. Also, some of the games produced by Nintendo are targeted for the more experienced gaming audience. With all of the new advances made in the new gaming industry, specifically by Nintendo, it appears that innovation in gaming systems is at an all time high.

Best video games ever

Video games have been a hot topic ever since Atari was founded in 1972 and the FIRST game ever called Pong was introduced. Since then hundreds of different video game consoles and billions of game have been produced for people all across the world. It seems a little bit redundant to have so many different consoles with so many different games, but honestly each console fits the person that buys is.

For example the new Wii Fitness made by Nintendo has taken sports fanatics and health nuts by storm. Everyone that is anyone wants one of these cool consoles. You can play games of course but more importantly you can also get in shape, lose weight, and become more active. Wii has been the first ever console to have an interactive controller. This controller tilts, positions, has movement sensors and is one handed. You can box, play tennis, race a car, do aerobics, and you can even bowl!

There are many different types of game genres for many different types of people. My all time favorites are FPS (First Person Shooters) and Race Car games. Who wouldn't enjoy playing a game where they get to drive their ultimate dream mobile! Here are some other genres you might be interested in looking into if you like games, or are interested in what sort of genres are available on the market and some of the most popular games with in that genre

Choosing a video game console – Part 1

August 16, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment

2006 was a great year for video game fanatics. Sony and Nintendo released brand new systems, and the X-Box 360 just keeps getting better with age. Here we are in 2007, and now everyone is wondering, "What console should I buy?" I have owned and played all three, and I think I can write a review that will be right for you.

Q: Do you like to play online shooter games, such as Halo 2 and Counterstrike (for PC)?

A: Do NOT buy Nintendo Wii. Sure, the system will be going online soon enough, but waving a controller around at a screen is not going to give you the thrill X-Box or Sony would deliver. Nintendo is also known for their RPG's, not online shooters. Right now, it seems like X-Box 360 would be your best bet, but Playstation 3 is getting stronger and stronger, and already has a game that establishes PS3 as a contender for online shooters in the near future (Resistance: Fall of Man).

Q: Do you like sports games?

A: PS3 would be the way to go here. EA Sports proved that they didn't know what was coming at them when they released Madden 2007 for the Wii. Any hardcore Madden would be disappointed at the poor game play and less than stellar graphics. X-Box 360 is pretty strong with their sports games lineup right now, but EA and other producers have expressed strong interest in the PS3's capabilities. Look for PS3 to be the leader in one or two years, hands down.

Q: Do you plan to surf the internet on your console?

A: Do NOT buy X-Box 360. It doesn't come with a default browser. PS3 and Nintendo Wii both have browsers built into the system right out of the box.

Q: Do you plan to upload pictures, videos, and music to your console?

A: PS3 is the most friendly media-orientated system out there. Nintendo Wii is a close second, but X-Box 360 lacks heavily in this department.

Q: Which system has the best games right now?

A: Since X-Box 360 has been around longer, it is the strongest console with the strongest games right now. PS3 is second, showing off a few good games right off the bat. Nintendo Wii is falling behind, with subpar games coming out left and right every week.

Q: This is for a younger child. Which will they enjoy more?

A: If this is for a child 12 years or younger, I would consider Wii. It won't cost you a lot, and it has more games suitable for a younger audience. For for your teenager or 20-something year old, PS3 and X-Box 360 are more than sufficent.

The bottom line is that there are many factors that go into deciding a game console. I would go out and play everyone before I made a decision. I personally chose PS3, because I think it is going to do the best in the market for years to come. PS3 is here to stay. X-Box 360 will be a close competitor. Nintendo Wii has a lot of work to do to catch up, but it is nowhere close to being out of the race.

Video game reviews: Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop (Wii)

August 15, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

Zombie movies and zombie video games have been popular for decades now. Many take a serious approach, playing on the fears of viewers and gamers. Occasionally though, a movie or game takes a more light-hearted approach. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, is the "Shaun Of The Dead" of the video game world. It has its scary moments, but players are more likely to laugh than cringe. Dead Rising is available on the Xbox as well, but the Wii version is just a little bit different.

One of the biggest complaints about the Nintendo Wii, is the sub-par quality of the graphics, at least when compared to the other systems. Let's get that out of the way right now, the graphics aren't as good. Dead Rising is one of those rare instances where the weaker hardware of the Wii is a detriment in other ways. The system simply cannot handle the massive hordes of zombies intended to be on the screen. Consequently, there are fewer zombies on the Wii version, yet they seem a little tougher. Also missing in the Wii version is the ability to take pictures, each of which promotes the story line.

Those negatives aside, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is still an incredibly fun game, even on the Wii. The controls work pretty well, though the motion controls are not used nearly as much as one would expect. Using the wii remote as a gun-sight works wonderfully though, and in my opinion, better than the gun-sight in the Xbox version. Once controls are mastered, the game becomes incredibly fun. Many objects can be used as improvised weapons. These range from toy light-sabers, to mannequins, to lawn-mowers. Some of these sub-weapons work better than others, but almost all of them are funny.

The music and sound effects are all very good. The stereotypical mall muzak heard in the security room can get stuck in your head, and is occasionally annoying, but all the rest of the music is enjoyable. Boss battles all have more intense music, and really heighten the mood. (The grocery store owner battle has a great song.) The sound effects are pretty good, and more importantly, useful. When you hear a dog bark, you know that the annoying zombie-poodle is around.

All in all, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is a pretty good game. A must buy only for die-hard zombie fans. But a renter, or on-sale buyer for anyone else looking for a light-hearted, enjoyable adventure. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop receives a 4/5.

Defending video games: How more active games are getting gamers off the sofa – Part 2

August 15, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

If you were to ask someone who has never played a video game what their idea of a dedicated gamer would be, the answer would traditionally be one of two things. It would either be someone who was overweight and unfit, or someone pale and unhealthily skinny. Up until recent years, this probably would not have been an unfair assumption, but this is no longer the case. Gone are the days when all gamers are unfit, antisocial teenagers. Now more than ever gamers will encompass all areas of society, and can even help people young and old to improve their fitness, rather than decrease it.

Arguably the beginning of the "active gaming" phenomenon was Dance Dance Revolution, or DDR. This began as a large arcade machine which swept its way across Japan and the United States, leaving in its wake large groups of ultra-fit gamers who astounded people with their lightning reflexes and dance moves. From the arcade version came a smaller, easily transportable mat which connected to the Playstation 2, and parents flocked to the stores in the hopes of getting their kids off the sofas and dancing. The ps2 then continued the trend with the EyeToy, which used a camera with a motion sensor to allow active and interactive gaming.

Activision revolutionized even more with the game Guitar Hero. The unique design of the guitar controller encouraged gamers to really get into the action, and act as if they really were a rockstar. The fact that the motion sensor in the neck of the controller awarded you extra points for flair meant that the best players were also often the most active.

But although there were games out there that included movement and interactivity before, active gaming did not truly become popular until the release of one console. The Nintendo Wii. Nintendo have revolutionized the way people view gaming, and have brought it to the masses. When buying a Wii, it comes including Wii Fit, a fun game that showcases the Nintendo's unique motion sensor controller, otherwise known as the Wiimote. The game includes various minigames such as tennis, boxing and bowling. They can be played both single player or multiplayer and involve standing up and physically making the movements, rather than just pressing buttons. In fact, there are whole websites online devoted to "Wii related injuries" from people who played a little too over-enthusiastically!

But the Wii's innovation in active gaming has not ended there. In early 2008 we will see the release of Wii Fit, a game actually designed to help people keep fit. It comes with a piece of hardware called a Balance Board, which looks suspiciously like a set of bathroom scales but which is designed to intuitively detect the stance and position of the person using it. The game includes activities such as Yoga, Aerobics and general exercises to increase your strength and fitness. Also, like Wii Sports, it includes fun minigames like the hula hoop and tightrope walking which you can play alone or compete with friends

Whether Wii Fit becomes a long-lasting success or just a passing fad remains to be seen, but what is certain is that gaming will continue to expand to include more active games, and perhaps the preconception of gamers as unhealthy will be shaken off for good.

Choosing a video game console

August 13, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

Selecting a video game system has little to do with "what's popular". In owning a Wii, PS2, Gamecube, SNES, and multiple other systems, I've found the following factors should be considered before buying:

+ Game selection,

+ connectivity,

+ home media center,

+ multiplayer,

+ usability,

+ and price.

GAME SELECTION

If you are looking for the latest and greatest video games, look no further than the PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii. These represent the latest advances in video gaming technology. However, if you are a "classic" gamer looking to play hits of the 80's and 90's, you'll want to consider game systems that are able to play these older games.

Wii is by far the most versatile in this category; able to play Wii, Gamecube, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and TurboGraphix 16 games. PS3 is a runner up, able to play PS3 and a huge selection of PS2 games.

CONNECTIVITY

All of the latest video game systems have Internet connectivity capabilities. If you are looking to surf the Internet from your couch, the PS3 or Wii allow you to do so with ease. For the most seamless online multiplayer experience, I've found the Xbox 360 to be the clear winner. For fun, the Wii allows you to send messages and exchange Mii's (digital, fun representations of yourself) with other Wii consoles.

HOME MEDIA CENTER

For those that wish to watch movies or use other digital media (music, photos, etc.), PS3 and Xbox 360 are clear winners. Though you can view photos on the Wii, the PS3 has more useful photo-viewing features AND provides BlueRay and DVD playback functionality. Xbox 360 also allows you to watch DVD's, and with an additional attachment, allows you to watch HD-DVD movies. Both PS3 and Xbox 360 let you stream digital music to your system which is nice for those that have stereo systems and a large selection of music.

MULTIPLAYER

While all of the systems have the ability to play games with others online, the Xbox 360 has the most seamless online-multiplayer experience. For party play however, I've found the Wii to be the most fun. All systems allow at least 4 players to play simultaneously (depending on the game of course), so be sure to look at the game selection before deciding which system is right for you.

USABILITY

Hands down, Wii has the most intuitive and friendly user interface. Simply pick up a remote control (much like your television remote) and point it at the screen. The remote acts like a PC mouse pointer, allowing you to click on menu-options, move characters around, and otherwise control your games with ease. Xbox 360 comes in second with it's "Blade" interface.

PRICE

For a more impulse-buy, the Wii comes in at $250. It comes with a controller, a controller attachment, and a sports game. The Xbox 360 is a heftier, but reasonable $400. The PS3 is by far the most expensive system weighing in at $600. There are cheaper versions of the Xbox 360 and PS3, but I've found these to be lacking features that are very handy. While neither of these two systems come with a game, they do both comes with a controller.

Hopefully this gives you some firepower when considering your next video game system purchase.

Video game reviews: Sonic and the Secret Rings (WII)

August 12, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment

Not many video game franchises out today can claim to be as large an icon as Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog is. Throughout the years of joy and frustration of the evolution of video gaming, Sonic has been involved. With release of Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Nintendo Wii, the legacy continues.

This is the first game to feature Sonic in a solo game since 1991, and his comeback is a great one. Utilizing the Wii controls, the game has a sense of real speed, and fast action. The game play is the main factor of any Sonic game, and this game nails it.

The story is not the ordinary Sonic one most gamers may be used to. It is set in the book Arabian Nights, which is being destroyed by an evil genie by the name of Erazor. Sonic is warned that if Erazor gains enough power, he can literally jump out of the book and terrorize Sonic's world. It is up to you to traverse through 7 levels, each with a different style and challenge, to prevent Erazor from escaping the book.

The controls in Sonic are simple enough, you hold the Wii Mote sideways, and tilt it

left or right to move Sonic side to side, and press the 1 button to stop, and the 2 button to jump. Some people sometimes find it frustrating though, as you find yourself not being able to control Sonic directly. His momentum makes it so you have to time your movements carefully to bypass the hazards in Sonic's way.

In addition to running and avoiding obstacles, Sonic can attack enemies directly using the simple targeting mechanism. As you master the attack controls, you can use strings of enemies to bypass obstacles, often not having to touch the ground at all.

As you progress through the game, you can earn experience points to spend on certain skills. Some of the skills are useful, but most are pointless. You can progress through the game just fine without ever using any of the skills you earn.

As with most Wii games, Sonic includes a multi-player series of mini games. These games utilize the controller in a different way, and is a nice escape from the actual single player game. You can compete against the computer, or up to 3 friends.

The graphics in the game is very colorful and deep. It brings the seven levels of the game to life, as you have to run on various surfaces, including dinosaurs and pirate ships. The speed involved in Sonic's movements are the mainstay of the game, and the Wii handles it perfectly.

The music and voice acting are cheesy, but hey, you came for the game play, not the sounds. There is also an option to choose between English voice acting, or the original Japanese one.

All in all, if you enjoyed Sonic games in the past, and own a Nintendo Wii, then this one is a must buy. If you haven't found yourself itching for a new Sonic game, then rent it first and see if you like it. No matter which you choose, Sonic should be a great addition to your collection.

Which video game system should you buy? – Part 2

Wow! Never have there been so many different options to choose from in the history of the video game console war. In this, now, seventh generation of gaming systems, the industries have almost shot off into their own tangents. And when deciding on which one to buy, you better know what each one is capable of.

Nintendo Wii

Internet Capability Yes

Hard Drive No

Backwards Compatible Yes

Price - $249

With the Wii being the fifth console built by Nintendo, it's extremely impressive and the first of its kind. The "remotes" are acceleration sensitive and can detect 3-D movement. Most of the games are family friendly and get you up off the couch. The Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance (and e-Reader), and GameCube are all compatible with the Wii with the exception of online and LAN capabilities with the GameCube games. You can also purchase older Nintendo games online using the Wii ranging from $5 to $15.

Nintendo introduced another new concept called WiiConnect24. This is an online feature that allows your Mii (character created in your image by you) to mingle with other people's Mii's in a virtual world. It also allows you to leave messages on message boards for your friends on their Wii. The connection is a "always on" feature as long as the Wii is plugged in and has internet connection.

The downsides are: Lack of DVD player. Low storage capacity.

The Wii is meant for all ages and targeted towards families. With its low dollar price tag and unique graphics and game play style, its no wonder more people own a Wii than the other two.

X-Box 360 -

Internet Capability Yes

Hard Drive Yes/No

Backwards Compatible Yes/No

Price - $279 to $449

Even though it's only Microsoft's second attempt at a video game system, don't let that fool you. This machine is the all around high-definition's answer to graphics. With an optional HD-DVD player (sold separately as a PnP device) and three flavors to choose from, the X-Box 360 has something to offer for all levels of gamers.

Arcade $279 This is the light package for the occasional gamer. Includes: Wireless controller, 256 MB on-board memory, composite AV cable, HDMI 1.2 output, and an Arcade game disk that includes 5 titles (Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man Championship Edition, and Uno).

Premium $349 Perfect for the well-rounded gamer. Includes: Wireless controller, 20 GB detachable HD, Falcon Motherboard, hybrid composite and component cables, HDMI

Defending video games: How more active games are getting gamers off the sofa – Part 1

Video games are under attack from all fronts at all times. You have the men in suits being payed by some gamer to sue some video game for something. You have the parents claiming video games are corrupting their children. And you have the doctors and health personal telling the world how unhealthy gaming actually is. I really disagree with all those charges, but this article is about the health part so I'm not going to sway off track. Video games have always been there for people to enjoy them, and people always have. They are meant to be fun, not a replacement for your real life. Video games are not the cause for whatever problem you have.

Lately game creators have taken up stand against all these charges by trying to fight it a bit back. Games that gets the gamers to move and and exercise is big on the market at the moment, with the Nintendo Wii in the front of revolution. You had a few games doing it before the Wii like Eye Toy to some degree and Dance Dance Revolution type of games, but I would say the Nintendo Wii is the first console designed for physical strains. To the Wii it has been developed games that you can actually use to exercise your body and have a work out in your living room. I find it pretty amazing that people still complain. The options are now there for gamers to keep their body in shape without leaving the house and those that take it make that decision themselves. They can't complain and blame the game after wards. There are a lot of people blaming the games for themselves being addicted. This is big within the World of Warcraft community, but how you can you blame the game for you playing it a lot? There are nothing in the game that forces you to play and you even have to pay monthly to pay. So stop blaming the games and straighten up your act.

So I will summarize this with that it is up to the gamers themselves to maintain their health while playing video games. Whether you do that by playing a little and keeping your real life activities or if you do that by playing all day, but playing some exercising on Wii doesn't matter. As long as you eat healthy, sleep enough and generally live healthy. It is your life and it is up to you really. Stop blaming the games. Start taking a look at yourself.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 16

Last winter video gamers around the world anticipated the release of two new video gaming systems. The hype that led up to the release of Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii was incredible. Yet, it was not until the release of these two platforms that the competition had actually begun. There were many hard core gamers who claimed supremacy for the PlayStation 3; but, if majority rule has any say the Wii was, and is, the clear winner.

The first obvious thing of course is the price tag. Nintendo's Wii costs less than half of what you would spend on a new PS3. The PS3, I would say, is out of the price range for the very young gamers and even for a lot of older gamers. Granted, Sony had to spend a lot of money on developing this machine and the hardware itself is akin to some of the best gaming computers on the market; but, in comparison to the Wii, with Nintendo you get more for your money. Why is this?

Yes, the PlayStation 3 has insane graphics capabilities. Yet the audience that can take advantage of these capabilities is fairly limited. To take full advantage of the graphics capabilities you need to have a top-of-the-line HDTV in your home. I know that there are quite a few consumers today that do not have an HDTV in their home. I'm sure the hard core gamer is going to have the best equipment available for their gaming experience. What about the casual gamer, such as myself? If I were to purchase a PS3 I wouldn't be able to use it on my ancient television set. This is a clear draw back of the system itself. Sony tried so hard to create the ultimate gaming experience; they forgot that many of the consumers of their product wouldn't be able to use it. The Wii, while less sophisticated in terms of graphics capabilities, is able to connect to less technologically advanced televisions. This creates for Nintendo a much larger audience to sell their product to. Now grandma and grandpa and little Billy can play games without having to fork out thousands of dollars for a new TV set.

Now we get into the obvious advantage that the Wii presents- the revolutionary motion sensor controllers. This is what makes the Wii so fun to play. Mom and dad will be less likely to be upset that little Billy wants to play Nintendo for 2 hours because while he's playing he's getting a workout. I played Wii boxing for an hour one day and had sore arms for the next two. If you put on some wrist weights for an extra challenge you computer geeks won't get

Video game reviews: Mario Party 8 (WII)

July 20, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

Mario Party debuted on the Nintendo 64 back in 1999. Introducing Mario and Nintendo to the party board business. Fast forward nine years and Mario Party is still alive and kicking. This eight edition is proof of the franchise's success and popularity.

Once again Mario, along with friends and foes, bring you a slew of mini-games filled with good times with good friends. Travel through a virtual board game with your favorite Nintendo characters. All in an attempt to collect the most starts and declare yourself champ. You will then be able to gloriously flaunt you new title, as your friends curse how unresponsive the Wii controls are.

And your friends may actually have a valid point this time. (So please stop them before the become enraged and send your Wii flying across the room) Some mini-games are extremely frustrating to control. An impossible game of go-kart racing (dear lord please do not let Mario Kart for the Wii be anything like this) had me cursing the invention of video games.

Although there is an abundance of mini-games there are only 5 different boards to choose from, and unfortunate occurrence.

Games are customizable allowing for gamers to set the length and objectives of the game.

Multi-player is the main of appeal of Mario Party 8, as it has always been. Yet in today's world of internet and online gaming it is disappointing that Nintendo failed to include and online multi-player mode.

Up to 4 players can play at once, another set back in the games multi-player mode. Obviously Nintendo does not have the "more the merry" attitude.

Game play is often interrupted by an annoying announcer that is constantly slowing down your game. Off with his head I say.

Game Play Score: 7/10

Certain mini-games become frustrating with unresponsive controls that seem to do nothing you want them to.

Graphics Score: 8/10

Mario Party 8 comes to you in 480p (Nintendo Wii's highest video output) along with 16:9 wide-screen. The game looks pretty awesome with crisp colors and animation.

Audio Score: 7/10

My only complaint with the audio is this game is the annoyance of the announcer. Constantly popping up when he's not wanted. Even though, he is mute, he still finds a way to make the most awkward of sounds.

Creativity/Innovation Score: 6/10

Most of the mini-games are previous Mario Party mini-games that have been remade to accommodate Wii controls.

Replay Value Score: 8/10

With a large library of mini-games it's a doubt you and your friends won't want grow tired of this game. As long as some bad controls don't bother you.

Final Score:7/10

Basically Mario Party 7 with Wii controls proves to be mildly entertaining. However, being the only real big "family game night" type of game Mario Party 8 is still a solid choice for you and your family to enjoy

If you like Mario Party consider adding games like Wario Ware: Smooth Moves or Super Monkey Ball Blitz to your game library.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 17

The Nintendo Wii has been sold out every week since its debut in November of 2006. While, out selling the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 along the way. Now, here we are some 14 months after its original release and Wiis are still at a premium. Don't believe me check out Amazon or ebay.com for the latest on market prices for this console. This fact alone supports that Wii is the better console.

Still not convinced of the success and popularity of this console? the read on my pessimistic friend.

Many analysis discount Nintendo's success as a mere fad. A trend that will so die out with that will eventually leave Microsoft and Sony battling for video game supremacy. Not the case, not in my house. I was finally able to get a Wii this Christmas to go along with my PS3, which i bought mainly for its Blu Ray support not the games.

Although I will admit to the PlayStations beautiful graphics engine it does not come close to accomplishing what the Wii accomplishes. Playing games with my family, in which i have three sisters, (I know it was brutal being the youngest boy) to see them gathered around the TV playing Wii Sports.

Far from a gimmick as I, and other Nintendo insiders, believe the console will continue to sell well through out the 2008 calender year.

The argument that the Wii are for kids and will not appeal to the "hardcore game" has also been debunked. With great single players games like Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, and Zelda: Twilight Princess Nintendo has stayed true to its gaming roots.

I will admit that Nintendo's console is without its faults. No DVD play back is a bit of an annoyance, and I wish the graphics were better. All things I fully expect Nintendo to have on their next home console.

The PlayStation 3 is a great system in itself. As I mentioned I own one, which I use as a Blu Ray player. And if you have the money I would suggest you buy both these systems.

As far as "gaming" goes, I have found myself enjoying my time with the Wii that the PS3 or my friends Xbox 360. And I am quite positive that anyone who has played a Wii, (if you can get your hands on one) will enjoy it too.

Which video game console is better: PlayStation 3 or Wii? – Part 20

Recently my husband and I bought a Wii. For months before hand we researched the Wii and PlayStation 3. While the PS3 undoubtedly has superior graphics, for more realistic and mind blowing game play, it doesn't meet our needs as a family orientated gaming console.

The first thing that drew us to the Wii was the price. It is great value for money and comes with WiiSports and a Wii Remote.

The second important thing for us was a console that made it easy to find child friendly games the whole family can play together. We currently own 9 games, 8 of which are rated G and all are great fun for adults as well as children. I felt it important to be able to have games our daughter can play without being subjected to violence, swearing and sexual innuendo. The portrayal of these things on more advanced consoles makes scary and inappropriate things seem very real and in some ways I think it's gone too far. I am enjoying the simple graphics of the games I play on the Wii, my senses aren't overloaded to a ridiculous point.

Game play is a major draw card of the Wii, while I wasn't totally sure about how that would work before buying it, I was sold the moment we started playing. You have to use your hand-eye coordination to do anything, you have to shake, point, rotate, swivel and hit your way through games, while interactive game play such as PlayStation's EyeToy has been around for awhile now there has never been anything quite like this.

The interactivity adds much to the gaming experience, especially with games such as WiiSports, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Rayman Raving Rabbids where it's almost imperative that you get up, use your body and energy in order to be successful. While I don't believe such play should take the place of outside play, exercise and moderation, I do think this type of game play is much healthier than the equivalent time spent playing PlayStation 3.

The physicality of playing also acts as a timer which means you tend to not waste so much time when you're gaming, which I think is an important aspect in these days when so many children are becoming addicted to video games.

The best thing about Wii? It caters to those of us who loved Mario when we were younger. We can enjoy new Mario titles and introduce our children to a much loved character from our childhood.

Are video games getting better or worse as graphics, sound and gameplay complexity improve?

How could I possibly even think anything electronic, particularly video, is getting worse rather than better. With the technical breakthroughs and electronic advancements we have made isn't everything getting better?

In June 1972 Atari started the video game craze with Pong. They continued with many follow-up games that were indeed a hit in their time but would barely be recognized today. By 1980 Atari was experimenting with the big ones; centipede, asteroids, dig dug and others that were taking the entertainment world by storm.

Atari began with machines designed for video parlors and convenience stores. The games became so popular they introduced a Pong for the home. Two players would bat an electronic ball back and forth across the TV screen. There were several variations, larger or smaller paddles, faster or slower balls, but basically it was an in-house ping pong game for the TV.

In the early 1980's the video game environment was about to blow up. In 1983 Nintendo introduced the 8 bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In February of 1986 the NES became available in America with a game already packed in the box; Super Mario Brothers (SMB). SMB went on to sell over 40 million copies.

Enough of the brief history of video games. Suffice it to say games did indeed get better in the 80s and 90s and they got better fast. They went from the jerky, square figures of Atari to smooth side scrolling cartoon like characters. They continued to evolve into full 3D type of video. The controllers and platforms evolved right along with the game ideas and developments.

But, wait a minute. These are just games right? Just how much can we or do we need to advance? Are we still playing a game or are we doing something else. I have played Nintendo games since my first NES back in the 80s. I made it a point to upgrade to every one of their advancing platforms. It was frustrating because suddenly all my old games were no longer viable. I could only play a new format game on a new platform.

But, I enjoyed the advancements and the improvements as we went from NES to Super Nintendo to N64 up through Game Cube. Now they continue to progress and introduce Wii. I haven't played or purchased a Wii just yet but I have seen it in action. Yikes, yes it is beautiful. It does wondrous things. Not much different than some of the others like X-box or Play Station. Where does it end though?

I claim the gaming is not getting any better because;

1) As games become more complicated they require advanced technical understanding

2) New games require new platforms which means new big dollars

3) Gaming magazines no longer cover old games they have become advertising for new games

4) There comes a point that a cartoon figure does not belong becoming a living being

5) Don't do so much that the fun of a game is replaced with the challenge of a machine

I have always purchased the next, new Nintendo platform. I probably won't get a Wii primarily due to the price and the lack of exciting games to play on it. The Mario franchise has always been my incentive to go on to the next level but they waited so long to develop Mario for the Wii that most of the excitement has worn off.

I like playing games but thats really where I want to keep it, playing games.

The Playstation 3 is overpriced, and it does not have the games to back up its price.

A video game system is all about the games. I do not think that even though a Playstation 3 can be the guidance system for a NASA fueled rocket ship, though it can make waffles and eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice, it needs games.

It needs games, and it needs a gaming experience.

When the first Playstation came out, it was heads and tails above any console at the time. Period.

When the Playstation 2 came out, it was boring the first two year, because there were not a lot of good titles out there.

Once the games starting coming out though, the power of the system, its easy to use controller, and the fun and excitement of the system came through.

Even when the Xbox arrived, and some Playstation fans jumped ship, it was not that significant.

The Playstation 2 was on top, and it was dominating the consoles to the point where the first Playstation was outselling the Ninetendo Gamecube and the Xbox in Japan, as well as in the United States.

The new competition heated up, and soon the Xbox released its 360, and Playstation released its next generation player, the PS3. Nintendo came out with its new console, the Wii.

Both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 play dvds. The Wii does not( Although I have heard about ways to get it to online, I am not sure if these are rumors or not and am not interested).

Why do I mention this? Well because while the PS3 does play Blu-Ray, which has seemingly won over the Xbox 360 backed HD dvd(which has currently been halted altogether, no more new HD dvds), the Wii came out of nowhere and is hugely popular.

It has consistently outsold both of the new systems and is more economical as a purchase, more interactive for the player, has more of a futuristic feel, and has many of the popular games of the other two systems, but with the Wii remote, they become something entirely new.

In addition to this, the games that are unique to the Wii, the Super Paper Mario, and the Super Mario Galaxy, the graphics are good, and the game play is really fun and interactive.

The Wii has stunned everyone, even themselves, they were not prepared for the rush, and are making a million units a month to make up for the unexpected demand.

Why unexpected? Because everyone is simply locked into the idea that dvd playing, big graphics, big marketability, these are the things gamers want.

You want to know why people still play Q-bert, Pac-man, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Bros., its because a great game is a great game. And the games on the Wii are great, and the way you use the Wii remote is so cool, it feels really really like you are more a part of the game play, and this personalizes the game and makes it more fascinating.

The Wii will continue to be better than the Playstation 3 until the Playstation 3 can put out the thing that made it such a desired console initially, good video games.

Why the video game industry is reaching new heights

June 25, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

The video game industry has been one of the fastest growing industries since it was created. It doesn't matter if you look at Pong or Pac Man or Sonic or Halo, there have always been thousands upon thousands of gaming fanatics and casual gamers that are willing to spend thousands of dollars every year on video games. Video games appeal to people because they are fun, competitive, and they are easy learn but often hard to master. Also, most video games make themselves very clear on the screen. Unlike books or board games, there is little to no reading involved in video games; only sight and reflexes are involved. This combination of television and rockem-sockem robots-like movement of the hands make video games that much more accessible and compelling.

Of course, some people would argue that, eventually, gamers would grow bored of the same old two-handed bent-potato shaped controllers that are updated routinely merely by adding new buttons every time a new system comes out. Fortunately, the gaming industry knows of this weakness in design repetitiveness, and they can easily work around it. For, while the classic two-handed controller has served companies and customers well over the years, creative companies have always been trying to push the envelope in controller design. The most recent and obvious example of this would be the Nintendo Wii. The Wii turns video gaming into a whole new way to play for three reasons. Firstly, instead of staying put throughout an entire play session, the Wii player must make at least some movement throughout the game, because their Wiimote directly controls their character on screen. Secondly, the Wii takes full advantage of WiFi technology, meaning that millions of players can meet each other online and set up games with people who they've never even met or seen before. No one will ever have to call up their busy friends again if they just want a quick multiplayer game. Lastly, the Wii has been made completely backwards compatible. It cannot only play all the old Gamecube games, but it can also play whatever other games from past generation consoles customers choose to download to their Wii using Wii points.

Nintendo has been around since the early days of video games and has been a big proponent of the industry. But the added competition of Sony and Microsoft make the industry grow that much more. Because of this three-headed rivalry, there will never be a shortage of ideas and work flowing through the major companies, because they will always be trying to out-do each other. For customers, this is a dream come true. Not only do they have a huge amount of choices when deciding which video games and systems to buy, but they also have three major corporations competing directly for their attention. With the added information of gaming magazines and sites, customers can make educated choices and pick the best games to buy. The companies then learn which games their customers like, and can make even better games based on that data. In this way, the industry not only grows, but becomes better and better.

As technology evolves, game designers have even more options and ways to be more and more creative. Video game design is an art form, and the great thing about an art form is that it is only limited in terms of technology and the human imagination. The video game industry will continue to grow and grow because of its massive fan base and competitive market. There is no other business like the video game business. No other moves as quickly, and no other has so much room for improvement and creativity. And that is why the ever-exciting video game industry will never fail to not only reach new heights, but look to even greater ones.

Video game reviews: Rockstar Table Tennis (Wii) – Part 2

June 22, 2010 by Goldenchute · Leave a Comment
Filed under: video games

Liu Ping feverishly rushes to one side of the table to fight off Jesper's wicked backhand. Jesper returns his shot with a fiery forehand backspin. The ball hits the corner of the table and bounces by Liu Ping. Point, match, Jesper! Is this a tournament at a local gym? The world championships in Zagreb? Nope. This can take place in the comfort of your basement, living room, or bedroom, if you so desire, with Nintento Wii's Rockstar Table Tennis.

Nintendo Wii took the video game industry by storm in 2006 with its wireless controller called the Wii Remote, which enables game characters to mimic the player's, every move; (or is it the other way around?). Now, in October of 2007 interactive Table Tennis has been taken to the next level in the world of Wii, with Rockstar Table Tennis.

Using the patented Wii Remote (also known as the Wiimote) and its Nunchuk controller, Rockstar Table Tennis allows players to enjoy three levels of play. In the "Standard" version players use the Wii remote itself, allowing players to control the timing and type of shot. In the "Sharp Shooter" version, players can the Nunchuck to place the ball along with the timing of the shot. In the final, "Control Freak," version, which takes some time to master, players may also use the Nunchuck to control their player's movement along with using the Wiimote. Of course, as players master each style of play it opens up new avenues for the game player, but it does take time to learn to maneuver both controllers.

Since it is table tennis, there is only so much Rockstar can do with the graphics, but the table layout, ball movement, paddle movement, etc. are clean. The graphics in the player shots are very detailed and lifelike. For the Table Tennis junkie, Rockstar, however, is one more avenue to "play" the game you love when an opponent can't be found and a virtual opponent will do.

The Future of the Xbox 360

The Future of the Xbox 360

When it was first released, the Xbox 360 game console was truly at the top of its field. However, competition in the video game industry is fierce, and developers must constantly work to improve their designs. Thus, Microsoft is making strides towards improving its most powerful game console and bringing the Xbox 360 one more step into the future.

The Xbox 360 is already capable of doing so much. Most notably, it plays some of the most advanced games on the market. This refers not only to graphics and audio, but to strategy as well. Additionally, players can compete against each other online and communicate via voice and video chatting while doing so. The Xbox 360 can also play audio CDs and DVDs, making it a truly multi-purpose electronic device.

One of the key changes Microsoft hopes to make is to improve Xbox 360’s connectivity. Soon, the console will be able to easily interact with other multimedia devices, like digital cameras and mp3 players. Such devices would let users better customize their Xbox experience. This would be done using a simple USB connection. Other accessories will also be available for the Xbox 360 soon. This includes a joystick, keyboard, and special edition black controller.

Currently, most Xbox games must be purchased in disc format. However, soon this will be a thing of the past. Instead, all new content for the Xbox 360 will simply be downloaded from the internet. Xbox Live users can already do this on a small scale; downloading simple games and additions to games on disc. The recent launch of Xbox Originals has also expanded the concept of downloading game content right to the console.

Xbox 360 is also looking to expand its multiplayer features. Soon, the console’s Live features will allow users to create avatars and interact more easily with peers around the world. Users will also have greater influence over their gaming experience as the future of Xbox 360 unfolds. Developers are working on games where users can edit the content themselves. An early example of this is Forza Motorsport 2. With this game, players can use an editor to make their own content and trade it with others online.

Finally, Xbox 360 is looking to take users beyond gaming. Its developers recently announced a deal made with Netflix, which will allow Xbox 360 owners to get movies and television programs downloaded right to their console. A similar service may soon be available for music downloads. Another entertainment innovation will be Xbox Live Primetime. This will be a multiplayer game show network right on the Xbox 360 console. Players will be able to compete in virtual versions of their favorite game shows and even win real prizes.

Ultimately, Microsoft hopes its upcoming improvements to the Xbox 360 console will give their company an edge over competitors. Whether or not that will be the case remains to be seen. However, many fans are looking forward to a new level of gaming and entertainment to be brought to their Xbox 360 systems.

Which video game system should you buy?

The Wii is definitely the best video game system that should be bought when deciding out of any game systems. It gives you a good opportunity to be active and play games at the same time! The Wii is very effective and it beats out the Xbox 360 by a long run...I admit that for older gamers may enjoy the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3 if they are looking for better graphics and some of the games are for a lot older people. However, the Wii is very fun and has games and graphics that children and grown-ups alike will all love. It brings all game systems into one big one and doubles the excitement! The only problem with the Wii is the low stock that are given to stores of them. Nintendo continues to hold them back and only releases them in stores about once a week. If you do happen to get a Wii then you are one lucky person! The Wii is very easy to connect and disconnect, move around (although you must be very careful when messing with any of the wireless bars,etc..on the Wii) and put in small spaces where the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3 may not fit. Another wonderful thing about the Wii is the ability to play all old Game Cube games on it as well as Wii games (as long as you have the Game Cube remotes). Along with the Xbox 360 and other gaming systems that are out there right now, on the Wii you can set up and connect to your home Internet, which enables you to be able to buy games right when you are playing! The Wii also brings a unique feature of Weather, News, Photos, and Messaging. If you are connected to the Internet, you will be able to look at the weather, you will be able to see local news, and you will be able to download some of your photos onto the Wii which you can edit, send, and do many other fun things with them, that if you didn't have the correct equipment you may not even be able to accomplish with the computer! One of the things I enjoy on the Wii is the ability to send messages between other Wii systems. You can send game results and many other amazing things! Best of all the Wii brings out a whole new world called Miis. They are small characters which you can make from scratch, or start with basic things already set up for you. Once you are done creating the characters you can let them "mingle" in which they can travel around to different Wiis and make new friends. If you ever have to go through the decision of buying a video game system I would definitely without a doubt recommend the Wii. It is the best and I'm not sure if anything better will be able to be made. Get the Wii! It is great and it has been a lot of fun for me to work with!
