Do i need a wii wheel to play mario kart wii, or is it an unnesessary accesory?

You do not need to buy a wii wheel, it comes with one. Only one, so you may wish to consider to purchase an extra for multiplayer. Although, this is not a necessary accesory.
Mario Kart Wii comes with the Wii Wheel. It is not required. You can play without it and also you can play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller, and Gamecube Controller…Get it…It’s Fun

well, as stated, the game comes new with one. But you can just use the wiimote to play. One of my sons likes the wheel and the other likes the wiimote better.
You do not need a Wii Wheel…you can use your Wii remote by itself. This is what’s up though…when you buy Mario Kart Wii…it comes with a Wii Wheel!

The game comes with the Wii Wheel. It is an unnecessary accessory, however. The game plays much better without it, actually. You can use the Wiimote and Nuchuk, Classic controller, or Gamecube controller instead of the Wiimote with the Wii Wheel, which all are much better than the Wii Wheel.
the game comes with one only. it’s surprisingly fun to use, though. most of my hardcore gamer friends thought it would be lame, but it makes it pretty fun. you can use the gamecube controllers too though. you don’t need to buy anything else to go with the (really fun!) game.
fyi – there are no new tracks on this game. you’ll have seen all of them before on n64 and gamecube, so don’t get your hopes up too much.
The wheel is not necessary, but highly useful in the game. It helps you steer your cart very easier than without the wheel
