Video game reviews: Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3)

For over a decade, Virtua Fighter has become a dynasty for Playstation users worldwide. The intense martial arts fighting styles of the main characters has eared the game a Mature rating for its violent nature, but at its core, it is simply an evolved version of classic arcade games such as Mortal Combat.

In general, the game has been geared for longstanding VF fans, who have honed their skills and techniques as the game itself continues to evolve technologically. The immense cast of characters remains the same as prior versions, although some additions have been made for the fifth installment.

Matches are selected depending on the mode chosen by the player. An arcade mode pits the individual against a powerful boss character who is not likely to be susceptible to novice and rudimentary moves and can only be beat with a profound knowledge and understanding of the complex controls.

Also, a single player mode allows users to follow a storyline which is the continuation of the previously established VF series. On the more advanced gaming console, the Playstation 3, VF5 runs at 720p which results in a high definition resolution which has become a staple of the new wave of video games, further enhanced by the increasing popularity of HD-TVs. Regardless, some areas of the game's maps are still slightly pixilated, and load times are elongated which can sometimes counteract the intensity and excitement of the matches, but can also provide ample time to relax after a round of concentrated gameplay.

Like most other competitive fighting games, a multiplayer option gives you the opportunity to compete against a friend in the same arcade backdrop. There is, however unfortunate, no room for customization as the game does not feature a "create your own profile" mode which has also become a common feature of popular video games today. In addition, there is no online game mode which may contribute to the failure of the game's sales overall, as more and more gamers are focusing on widely played online games.

Mario Kart Wii running on the PC using Dolphin revision 2680. System used: + E8400 @ 4GHz + 4GB Ballistix DDR2 RAM + XFX GTX 260 216 Black Edition This video demonstrates just how well this game can be emulated with a decent CPU & GPU (not to demonstrate game play) as most of the videos on YouTube are low quality cam / cell footage. As you can see, this game suffers from some rather minor problems but is still playable. For added enjoyment I would recommend you use an Xbox 360 controller ...
