Video game reviews: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Hard Evidence (Xbox 360, PC)
When video game developers at Ubisoft launched their series of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation video games, forensics fans everywhere were thrilled. Although molded after the popular television series, the fourth installment in the CSI video game series, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Hard Evidence, fails to replicate the drama and suspense of the TV show.
In order to finish the game, players must solve five different cases. Unfortunately, none of the cases are as seemingly complex as they are on the show. Even still, players are required to enter the crime scene and investigate simply by walking around. In the computer version of the game, moving your cursor over different areas of the crime scene will allow you to reveal evidence. Gameplay is similar with the Xbox 360.
Once you have located the evidence, you simply click or press a button and your character will bag and examine the clue just like on the show. Forensics lovers are sure to be wowed by the detailed methods of examination and analysis, even including pictures of the various pieces of evidence (hair follicles, for example) in microscopic zoom.
The animation is relatively good, but definitely not amazing as some of the characters' facial features leave much to be desired. Another downside to CSI: Hard Evidence is the overall simplicity of the game. Even if you find the mystery-solving a bit difficult, the game offers players assistance in the form of CSI characters. Click on a character to ask for a hint. Otherwise, simply looking at the map is usually enough of an indicator as to what clues you have left undiscovered. When a crime scene has been investigated completely, and all clues have been uncovered, a checkmark appears over the scene, clearly indicating that all clues have been found. If you don't see a checkmark, you've left something behind, so simply go back and keep digging for more evidence.
