Video game reviews: Halo 3, beta

Easily the most popular video game ever created, Halo redefined video games for the world. The control system devised for the XBOX controller has set the standard for first-person shooting, vehicular combat and simultaneous weapons. It showed the world that video games can be just as interesting and intellectually stimulating as they are fun and entertaining.

The plot revolves around a war between the multiple alien race cooperative, The Covenant and the humans of future Earth. Master Chief is one of the last Spartans alive to defend the human race. Spartans are genetically enhanced, cybernetic, Mjolnir armor clad super-warriors. When Master Chief and a group of humans find a ring-world that was not built by the Covenant or by humans, the battle is taken to the ring-world's surface, otherwise known as Halo. But, who made it? What does it do? And what's hidden inside? Truly a remarkably brilliant plot line and interesting story for the otherwise ridiculous video game plot-line genre.

When Halo: Combat Evolved (Copyright Bungie, Microsoft) was released, it's start was slow, but it suddenly snowballed into a media giant. Sequels, video game spin-offs, books, a graphic novel, and even a movie were planned. Halo 2 hit stores a few years later, with record breaking sales and a massive fan-base, as well as bringing "dual-wield" (or "holding" two guns at once) to the video game industry. With Halo 2's introduction to XBOX Live, millions of players around the world play together on the Internet. To this day, it is still the most popular game on XBOX Live. But when the ending of Halo 2 was an exciting cliff-hanger, fans could hardly wait for the last installment.

The graphic novel and book series have done considerably well since they were based on a video game, which most people avoid in literature. the movie is quite a different story. The script (available for review at: http://www.latinoreview.com/sc riptreview.php?id=1) was written by Alex Garland and was delivered to several studios by men dressed as Master Chief, the main character of Halo. Peter Jackson picked up the rights to produce, as well as novice director Neil Blomkamp to direct, and all the movie needed was a studio. Universal turned down the movie because of some budget issues, but 20th Century Fox picked up the rights a fews months later. Halo the Movie is set for release Summer 2009.

Then, it came. Halo 3 is set for release on September 25, 2007. Sales are anticipated to be in millions, and will most likely break record for video game distribution and purchases. Several new strategic changes will take place in Halo 3. For example, there are two new types of grenades (the shield grenade which encases the thrower in a protective energy "bubble" and the Brute spike grenade, which fires needles in one direction), two new vehicles (the long awaited Mongoose ATV and the Brute Chopper, an essentially beefed up ghost), as well as a bevy of new weapons, such as the Brute rifle (armed with two bayonets), the Spartan lazer (which can "lock-on" to any vehicle and annihilate it instantly, but takes a few seconds to charge up), the removable Gun Turret from the Warthog, as well as the triumphant return of the favorite from Halo, the Assault Rifle.

Another interesting game-play option is 4-player co-op, which will allow four people to connect two XBOX 360s to play the Campaign levels of the game as a team. All in all, Halo 3 will definitely not disappoint those fans who consider themselves in the "Halo Nation".

According to J. Allard the Xbox 360 guru, the decision to sell the Xbox in two configurations is pro consumer in regards to the Xbox 360 hard drive issue. It allows consumers to decide whether or not the hard drive is worth the extra cost.

Allard stated "You buy the Xbox 360 Core system, you can build up to the premium system and you won't be left out of anything along the way," showing that consumers have a better choice since those choosing to buy the core system can then decide if and when they would purchase the Xbox 360 hard drive.

The flexibility offered by having a choice of purchasing the Xbox 360 hard drive or adding it on at a later date is not normally associated with the consumer electronics market and shows Microsoft's commitment to providing it's customers a choice according to Allard.

Allard said "Consumers like choice, and it's a very pro-consumer move on our part to say, We've got two configurations of system that'll be launching in Europe and if they're not right, we have the flexibility to go and change it."

All of the Xbox 360 games will be playable without the Xbox 360 hard drive. This promises the gamers who purchased just the core system will not be limited in the games that they play because of no Xbox 360 hard drive.

The Xbox 360 hard drive will contain pre-loaded specialized content. This content will be included in both the Xbox 360 Premium pack and the Xbox 360 hard drives that are purchased separately. The included content will include gamer content tiles which will allow gamers to personalize their Gamer Card by selecting one of the tiles to show as their icon when browsing Xbox Live. The custom sound track lets consumers test the Xbox 360's audio capabilities. The video included on the Xbox 360 hard drive includes a track on "The Making of Xbox 360". This will give people some insight on how this console was made and also showing off the video capabilities. The arcade game Hexic will give you and idea of the type of arcade games that will be available on Xbox Live. Hexic is created by Alexy Pajitnov, the original creator of Tetris. You know, one of the greatest games of all times. This game is very addictive and will keep you busy for the first two hours, before you even slip the first disk into the console.

Over all the content of the Xbox 360 hard drive is to give the consumer an understanding of what the capabilities of the game system are.

Which video game console is better: XBox 360 or PlayStation 3? – Part 3

Sonic makes his xbox 360 debut

You might be asking yourself, which next generation console is better? Both Sony and Microsoft have achieved producing next generation consoles with high definition output. Many games come out on both of these consoles, so what is the difference?

The XBox 360 has a lot going for it. The console debuted in November 22nd of 2005, which is almost an entire year ahead of the Playstation 3. The first year had some amazing and groundbreaking titles such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Gears of War. The Playstation 3 had only 17 games in it's launch year of 2006 and the XBox 360 had 54, not including the launch games from 2005!

The XBox 360 also has a feature called XBox Live. XBox Live is a huge online community of gamers. You can connect to the XBox Live Marketplace and download many arcade games that are fun and mostly multiplayer enabled. XBox Live also enables you to connect to your friends and send messages, play games together and video chat.

With the XBox 360 also came the new reward system of Achievements. Achievements are points that you can unlock to increase your Gamerscore. Achievements usually are not that easy to unlock and come with bragging rights. With a higher Gamerscore you may receive more respect and validation from fellow gamers.

The Playstation 3 is a next generation console in its own right. It is a good console, but I do not think it can stand up to the XBox 360. The XBox 360 community, design and games blow away the Playstation 3. The XBox 360 is more user friendly, you can check your messages and friend's list without quitting the game. You actually have to quit the game you are playing, on a Playstation 3, if you want to read messages, voice chat or check your friend's list.

Personally, I currently own both consoles. I definitely prefer the XBox 360 over the Playstation 3 any day. The XBox 360 is more user friendly, there is more of a community and it is more rewarding when you receive sought after Achievements. There is no question about it, the XBox 360 is better than the Playstation 3.

Xbox 360, amazing experience at your hands

Millions of fans of console video gaming all over the world welcomed Xbox 360 with one of the hottest hugs possible: amazing sale figures in just few hours after its initial release. But the real question remains, was Xbox 360 worth that entire buzz? Does the 360 live up to the high expectations of the addicted gamers all over the globe? Well, it appears that even if the Xbox 360 doesn’t score a bull’s-eye 10/10, it definitely was not far from achieving that.

Well, the first thing to learn about Xbox 360 is that it comes in 2 packages; the Xbox premium witch is priced at 400$ and the Xbox basic witch you can get for something close to 300$.

The basic package contains the completely new Xbox 360 console, a wired controller as well as the basic version of the Xbox Live service. Now, for about 100 extra bucks you will get many more things; this is something that will probably turn the majority of buyers towards the premium package.

Xbox 360

The premium bundle will provide you with the 360 console, a wireless controller, TV linking cables, a portable 20GB HDD and headphones. Additionally, this Xbox is fully backwards compatible with the games of the original Xbox; this means that you are able to play the games you already have from the original Xbox! Of course, you will also be given a basic subscription for the Xbox Live service too. Look closely at the differences of the 2 packages; was I wrong when I said that the majority of gamers would prefer to add 100 extra bucks and get the premium pack?

Straight for the meat now! The new Xbox is completely redesigned, with elegant, chic lines and light, beautiful coloring. The overall design is probably what would come out as a result of cooperation of Hummer’s & Porsche’s designers; I think Microsoft has done a great designing job. Regarding the core of the Xbox, its computational power, the graphics of the new games can speak for themselves. Amazing, curved surfaces, vivid backgrounds and detailed characters bring games as close to reality as possible. As a matter of fact, the 360 features an IBM PowerPC processor and a powerful graphics card by ATI.

The new Xbox 360 is also more family-friendly in the sense that it comes with a built in CD and DVD player. You can always listen to your favorite music while playing a game or you can watch a DVD along with friends or family in your HD TV screen.

I believe that Xbox 360 has too much potential; especially when the Xbox Live community will expand and there will be more blockbuster titles available. The brand new 360 definitely stands up to the expectations and the best has yet to come.

Which video game console is better: XBox 360 or PlayStation 3? – Part 6

Well, as a gaming enthusiast myself, as soon as the Xbox 360 and PS3 was released, I immediately got one of each. The Xbox 360 was the first console I purchased and I was quite impressed with its performance (The only console I played before that was PS2) The graphics was good on High Definition and the range of games was quite large for a new console.A buddy of mine had endless problems with his console. He purchased 3 Xbox 360 consoles and kept having problems.Sooner or later I started having problems and issues with the Xbox 360. The disc tray wouldn't open sometimes and somehow my discs even got scratched while being read. The thing that irritates me the most about the Xbox 360 is the fact that if I want to play online I have to purchase a Xbox live membership. I couldn't believe that after I spent so much money on the console, games and accessories, I still have to purchase this membership to play on line.

As soon as I purchased my PS3, somehow, I stopped playing Xbox 360. The sheer power of the PS3 blew me away. The games looked great and the console was user friendly.I could even play multi-player games for free!

The fact that it could read Blu-ray discs too was just the cherry on top. A Blue-ray disc can hold up to 50gb of data on a dual layer disc. Imagine the type of games developers can make with 50gb worth of space.

Another thing that attracted me to the PS3 was the motion sensing sixaxis controller. It makes the game just that much more interactive. When you are guiding a cannonball into a tower by tilting and moving your controller on Heavenly sword the feeling is just unlike an experience another console has failed to deliver (Excepting the Wii as the Wii does not fall in the Xbox 360 and PS3's performance bracket) Another thing that the PS3 has going in its favour is the exclusivity of some major titles. Gran turismo, God of War and Final fantasy are just a few examples, For those 3 titles alone it makes the PS3 tip the scales in its favour over the Xbox 360. PS3 just has a better looking future as well. The PS3 is keeping up with the Xbox 360's pace even though it full potential has not been realised by developers as yet. Its sort of a sleeping giant. The PS3 also gets my thumbs up because of the Wifi connectivity.I do not need to purchase some extra adaptor for wifi as with the Xbox360.

In conclusion, even though the Xbox 360 attempts to dethrone the PS3, I don't even think its in the same league. The PS3s' potential still has to be realised while the Xbox 360 has already reached its max.

The Xbox 360 is the second video game console produced by Microsoft in co-operation with IBM, ATI and SiS.  With its Xbox live service, players can compete on line and download arcade games such as game demos, TV shows, trailers, music videos or rented movies.  Xbox 360, which is the successor to Xbox, is the seventh generation gaming system competing with Sony’s play station 3.

The Xbox 360 – launched on MTV on May 12, 2005 - is the first console to provide a near simultaneous launch across three major regions with wireless controller support.  The console sold out completely at release and as of September 2007, 13.4 million units have been sold worldwide with a variety of three versions.

Development:  Xenon, Xbox 2, Xbox FS, Xbox Next or Next Box were the initial names during development of Xbox 360.  Before the advent of Xbox 360 using Apple’s Power Mac G5 hardware, several alpha development kids were spotted.

Xbox 360 launch:  The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005 in the United States of America and Canada.  Microsoft had officially launched Xbox 360 in thirty six countries in its first year of launch, more countries than any console had launched in a single year and because of its early launch, the Xbox 360 has taken the lead on both of its competitors, Sony’s play station 3 and Nintendo’s Wii.

There are three standard variants in Xbox 360.  Xbox 360 Arcade, the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 Elite.

The Xbox 360 Core was an entry level now replaced by Xbox 360 Arcade.  The core system is the bundle of composite video cables, capable of only SDTV resolutions.  The Xbox 360 Core may utilize a separately sold 20 or 120 GB Hard Drive.

The Xbox 360 Arcade is the replacement for Xbox 360 Core.  It includes a wireless controller, 256 MB memory unit, composite AV cable, HDMI 1.2 output, 5 Xbox Live Arcade titles with packaging labeled ‘go play’ and also a ‘welcome video’ and several game trailers/demos.

The Xbox 360 generally called the ‘premium’ or ‘pro’ has all the features of the Xbox 360 core and has a combination of composite cable and component cable.  The Xbox 360 also has a detachable 20 GB Hard Disc Drive which stores downloaded content, compatible with original Xbox games and store game data.

The Xbox 360 Elite is the fourth and most expensive variation of the console.  It includes a 120 GB Hard Drive and a Matte black finish.  The Elite was released in August 2007.

On the day of Xbox 360’s release, Microsoft added a basic non-subscription service – Silver – to its already established premium subscription based service called Gold.  The Xbox Live Marketplace designed to download purchased or promotional content offers movie game trailer and game demos.

The Xbox Video Marketplace is an exclusive Video Store to download high definition and standard definition television store and movie on to Xbox 360 console.

The Xbox Live Arcade is an on-line service used to distribute downloadable video games to Xbox and Xbox 360 owners operated by Microsoft.

The Xbox 360’s graphical user interface “GUI” is the Xbox 360 dashboard which features five blades and can be launched automatically when the console boots up without a disc.

A new feature called Xbox Original was launched to download original Xbox games directly to Xbox 360

Xbox 360 Elite, which is the flagship of the 360 console. Not only will I tell you why I think it is the best, but I'll tell you the cheapest place you can get it.

Video gaming was revolutionized with the creation of the Xbox 360 thanks to a team of developers working hard to combine the right technology at the right price. Who would have ever thought we could live without HD video gaming and 5.1 Surround Sound with which you can hear every single little nuance of a game's audio environment.

The Xbox 360 looks so good on an HD TV that I've often had friends ask me what game was on when I was playing Madden. They literally thought that I was watching a real sporting event when I was actually playing the Xbox. This system is so smooth that there are never any glitches or freezing unlike other gaming systems.

The Xbox 360 Elite boasts a huge hard drive of 120GB, which is capable of storing an endless amount of game demos, videos, skins, and music all without you needing to save space for your saved games. It also comes with a black matte finish wireless controller, which means no more of the dog tripping on the controller and yanking it out of your hand during a boss battle.

You can also use it to your advantage to play from anywhere the wireless connection will reach. As if you needed any more reason to buy the Xbox 360 Elite, it also comes with a black matte finish headset so you can talk to your friends online via Xbox Live as you dominate them in a first person shooter like Call of Duty 4 or in a FIFA 2009 match. The system also comes with an HDMI port and cable so you can take full advantage of the HD resolution that the Xbox 360 offers.

The games for the 360 are the best on the market and you can find the most variety of any game system thanks to the fact that this was the first modern gaming console released on the market. Game developers have been spending years perfecting the design and implementation of their games on the Xbox 360. As a result, you 've got the best graphics, sounds, and game play on the market. When I say that the Xbox 360 is a cutting edge console gaming system, I am not joking!

The Xbox 360 Elite also features a Windows Live software setup that allows you to stream audio and video from your home PC or laptop meaning that the Xbox 360 functions as a home entertainment system as well. You don't need a DVD player anymore either, since this bad boy can do it all on its own. The prices of Xbox 360 are as cheap as they've ever been and now is the perfect time to get one so that you can start enjoying high definition, crisp gaming that is the best on the planet.

The 360 Elite is the best of the best and there is no way you could get bored with this system.
