What jobs are there in the video games industry?
Thomas H asked:
Hi.
Im finishing secondary school soon and am then moving on to college. I have always been interested in video games and am thinking of maybe pursuing a career in making them. However I am a little unsure of what jobs there are in the games industry. Could someone please help me out by listing the main job titles?
Thanks!

every major video games publisher and distributer has vacancies on their websites. lead programmers games testers audio and visual programmers storyboard artists ect. look online for inspiration. check out raven,id software valve and steam theres a whole plethora of in house jobs. start small, by small i mean its something i couldnt do, but as most modern games are open source you could do a mod and then send it off to the publishers. postal 2 has the unreal editior as an added bonus. 7 quid not bad for a fully fuctioning program to edit and create your own games.
There are tonnes like Game Designing, Programming, Tester. Just look at the credits on Halo 3 or Call of duty and look
I’m actually looking to work in the same thing.
But it depends on what you want…are you on the programmer side or the artistic side? Most people assume you’re a programmer if you work in games but that’s ignorant.
I can tell you from an artistic standpoint, there are storyboard/concept artists, 3d modelers, graphic artists, animators/riggers, texture artists, level designers.
And education won’t get you a job. You’ll also have to do some work on your own (make some levels, model people/architecture, program a level) and know someone who can help you.
Also, learn the programs more on your own. It’s a crapload of work, so be prepared.
